Role Summary:

Baker Hughes has an opening for a Firmware Design Engineer in Houston, TX at the Center for Technology Innovation. The position is for a Firmware Design Engineer to work on new product development, as part of a multidisciplinary project team. The work will focus on the development of firmware on electronics. The successful candidate will be involved in every aspect of the design from concept through prototype testing, qualification and the implementation in manufacturing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Understand system level requirements and expectations
  • Analyze the needs and design firmware after getting detailed information regarding the scope, performance, limitations and capabilities of the project
  • Validate the firmware to check its functionality, and ensure that it is running and operating smoothly
  • Evaluate the performance of the system and troubleshoot issues if any
  • Develop firmware to support electrical, mechanical and software tests
  • Integration testing with Mechanical, Electrical, Software disciplines
  • Provide guidance / training to manufacturing technicians
  • Review and submit patents and technical papers


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic, Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a design engineering position
  • Good individual communication skills and excellent problem-solving ability
  • Knowledge of firmware design, testing, and debugging
  • The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Must be action oriented, ethical in values, and have strong customer focus

Desired Characteristics:

  • Good programming skills, Embedded C, C++
  • Experience with DSP and microprocessor systems and architecture
  • Experience with interfacing to common external peripherals including flash, ADC's, RTC's, and various communication transceivers.
  • Understanding of design-for-reliability requirements
  • Experience with Code Composer Studio IDE, version 6 or greater
  • Experience with reading and understanding electrical schematics
  • Familiar with development support equipment such as emulators and power supplies.
  • Familiar with debugging support equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and function generators
