A hands-on technical role, working as part of the Production Domain central team, you will be an experienced data manager or data engineer with a passion for data. You will be responsible for ensuring the Production domain team is delivering and managing data within Upstream's analytical platforms, including Foundry and Azure, at pace and scale in line with Domain strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Upstream data pipelines required to deliver strategic Production data from the systems of record, via the Upstream Data Lake (UDL) to Foundry and Azure platforms
  • Responsible for gathering the production data requirements from programme leads and product owners within the Production domain and Production Management scope
  • Responsible for delivering curated and analytics-ready datasets to Upstream strategic analytic platforms including Foundry and Azure, within the Production domain and Production Management scope
  • Manage the central Production domain data team (data specialists and engineers) and ensure the right level of dev/ops support for Production data is in place, that they are working efficiently and demonstateing BP behaviours
  • Working with the Data Engineering Service Owner, coordinate the buildout of data pipelines and the curation of datasets within Foundry and Azure platforms, set best practice and implement process and standards
  • Develop a deep understanding of Upstream data integration tools, technologies and analytic platforms, including he Upstream TRM and help the team best leverage tools and technology
  • Help End Users access Production domain datasets
  • Work closely with colleagues within dataworx, Digital and 3rd parties, to ensure data pipelines are working and any problems are reported and closed out
  • Develop tools and techniques to proactively QC, manage and maintain data sets, ingestions, data quality and conformance
  • Build and manage stakeholder relationships across the Digital, Upstream Business and Technical Functions and other 3rd parties
  • Build collaborative relationships with other data domains within DataWorx and Digital
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering Service Owner to build out the operating model to support Upstream Production data
Required Skills
  • Demonstrable experience successfully managing a technical team and delivering tools, projects or programmes to budget and deadlines
  • Proven experience in data management and/or data engineering with a good understanding of databases, data pipelines, big data platforms, data management practises and data standards etc.
  • Experience working Agile methodology and Azure Dev/Ops essential
  • Able to manage stakeholders' expectations and facilitate difficult discussions essential
  • Demonstrable expereience managing and manipulating structured and/or streaming data
  • Able to listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them essential
  • Understanding of petroleum engineering, process engineering or production operations desireable
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, SQL, Java, C++, JavaScript etc.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals
  • Skill and comfort working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and iteration with users
  • Familiarity with data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and other technical tools
  • Self-starter, team player and proactive, positive approach essential
  • Ability (and willingness) to use new analytical tools and techniques
  • Strong communicator at the technical level
