Role Summary:

We are looking for a Lead Engineer who will focus on data analytics and modeling. The candidate will provide support for product development, operations, marketing, sales, and leadership teams by gaining insights from analyzing company data and developing engineering models. The ideal candidate is proficient in using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization. They have strong experience using a variety of data mining methods and data analysis routines for process optimization. In addition, they are adept at engineering concepts and physics-based modeling to validate the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based and engineering insights. The candidate will interact with customers, subject matter experts, data scientists, engineers, and software developers to create and validate new analytic solutions and engineering models to be integrated into external commercial product offerings or internal business solutions. They will have a passion for discovering solutions to challenging problems and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data and developing engineering models to drive commercial and internal solutions
  • Analyze company data using statistical, analytical, machine learning models to optimize and improve commercial products/services and internal operations
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  • Use predictive and prescriptive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, product design, revenue generation, and other business outcomes.
  • Generate physics-based models in conjunction with analytics models to describe and predict physics events during operation
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes, including during real-time operation


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or Data Science preferred) with 6+ years of experience, Master's degree with 4+ years of experience, or PhD with 2+ years of experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data analysis and engineering modeling
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (MATLAB, Python, R, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications
  • Experience with engineering modeling including static and dynamic analysis (FEA, ODEs, PDEs, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and generating technical documents (conference papers, job reports, customer recommendations, etc.)
  • Must be action oriented and driven to achieve results while receiving moderate to minimal supervision
  • Having a passion for developing the right solutions for customers to increase commercial value for customers and boost company business

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience integrating engineering analytics or advanced data-driven analytics into software solutions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coding in languages including but not limited to Matlab and Python
  • Demonstrated skills in applying supervised/unsupervised machine learning/deep learning techniques in algorithm development (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, and neural networks etc.)
  • Experience developing engineering models including mathematical models or using commercial packages (FEA-ANSYS, MATALB Simulink, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze engineering data using time-based analysis techniques and frequency-based analysis techniques
  • Effective teaming and problem-solving abilities with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to think customer-first and effectively prioritize and pivot as required
  • Experience in oil and gas industry and familiarity with oil & gas technologies
