Job Description

Are you interested in becoming a member of our dedicated team of fixed income specialists focussing on quantitative investment strategies? This is a role that will grow your skills and provide you with the set of experience you need to accelerate your career in finance, as you contribute to SAMCo's future success.

About SAMCo and the Fixed Income team

Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) is the dedicated in-house asset manager and a centre of excellence of the Royal Dutch Shell Plc group. We manage over USD 85 billion in assets for the largest Shell Pension Funds, the majority of which is managed in-house. Based in Rijswijk, SAMCo employs around 170 people and invests in fixed income, equities as well as alternative asset classes.

The 15-people strong fixed income department manages the developed market sovereign, emerging market and corporate credit debt portfolios. We strongly believe that our ability to deliver such success is down to our committed people, strong processes and the flexibility provided by the wide range of markets, asset classes and instruments. Our growing focus on quantitative research and machine learning should help ensure we continue to deliver on our strong financial performance.

Within the team, six people focus on the EUR 13 billion global portfolio of both investment grade and high yield corporate debt. Through inhouse research, the team develops a diversified set of fundamental and algorithm-based strategies. We are now looking to add a seventh colleague to focus on this area.

What's the role?

You will be assisting the portfolio management process from day one and thus gain immediate hands-on experience. As a portfolio manager you will:
  • Contribute to the development of new investment strategies using econometric and machine learning techniques, based on opportunities and trends spotted in the market.
  • Improve existing quantitative models and other tools to optimize portfolio implementation.
  • Run various strategies across the corporate credit portfolios, like rebalancing portfolios in line with agreed-upon risk-return profiles and subscribing to new bonds.
  • Build your network of contacts in the fixed income market, which includes representatives of banks and brokers, research providers and other asset managers.
In this role you will have a comprehensive on-boarding program, with guidance and support from senior portfolio managers to enhance your professional development and help shape your career path. Naturally, SAMCo will facilitate a VBA or CFA education, as well as provide various hard and soft-skill courses. SAMCo provides these opportunities, while at the same time supporting its employees to maintain a good work-life balance.
