As an expert in China's emerging digital market, you will be in charge of:
Developing and collaborating external relationships with vendors, venture capital firms, governments and research agencies to stay on top of key technologies, allowing for the development of novel collaborative commercial arrangements and enhancing BP's reputation for technological and business leadership.
Scanning the horizon to identify emerging digital technology trends, new products, and solutions potentially relevant to business segments and functions.
Networking across BP to understand business context, direction and key challenges that can be addressed through new technology and seek to solve problems with the help of the ecosystem.
Building expertise in one or more technology disciplines and work to inform others of the inherent value and promote awareness and advise leadership on the contribution of the technology to segment and functional strategies.
Delivering proof of concept projects, first implementations and help prepare the organization for further technology adoption. Use judgment on technology viability and discernment to accurately assess priority and readiness for change to deliver maximum value.
Assisting in setting and implementing the digital innovation vision & strategy for BP in China.
Who you will work with
The Digital Technology Associate China position is part of the Digital Innovation Organization (DIO) in BP. A team which combines innovation, business development and relationship management. It is significantly different from traditional leadership roles in Information Technology & Services (IT&S) which focus on a more structured set of activities involving large budgets and headcount and have clear authority. By contrast, this role will participate in initiatives working with highly technical people engaged in leading-edge activities.
The primary measure of DIO's performance is the business adoption of new digital technologies. Although relatively small in size, the DIO is world class in reach, processes, activities and results; works with the very highest levels of external organizations and operates within the full context of external digital and business innovation as well as BP Group and Segment strategy and tactics. It collaborates closely with other IT&S teams, BP's technology organizations and line businesses.
Essential Education experience and job requirements
Excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin (both oral and written), including the ability to communicate at different levels of the organization and to different technical abilities.
Awareness of China's emerging digital trends, innovation ecosystem and the technologies potential application.
A high level of drive and influence along with business acumen to engage with multiple internal and external partners.
Aptitude to show fluidity, speed, initiative in unstructured context.
Ability to rapidly grasp new concepts, achieve a high-level familiarity with new technologies and sense their application; ability to think at the very forefront
Strong entrepreneurial drive and curiosity; persistence in following up opportunities
Ability to provide technical clarity, translate ideas and concepts into business opportunities and successful technology adoptions
A minimum of five years of experience in the IT industry, including in an IT project oversight capacity
Project management skills, including anticipation and surmounting of technical, vendor, organizational and other challenges.
Understanding of the petroleum industry and significant experience working in an E&P, R&M, IST, or alternative energy context.
