STRATIGRAPHIC COORDINATOR

SUMMARY

Analyzes, evaluates and interprets geological data obtained by various methods and techniques to provide clients with accurate stratigraphic descriptions and interpretations, leading to a correlative framework.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Measures, describes, computes, analyzes and integrates geologic/scientific data. Must be able to competently evaluate data from a range of stratigraphic disciplines, including but not limited to lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and well log analysis. Knowledge of sequence stratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy and/or chemostratigraphy would be considered an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret paleoenvironments from Foraminifera and/or Palynomorphs.
  • Integrates analyses with other geological parameters to generate concise, integrated reports and summary diagrams to a deadline.
  • Communicates well to discuss analytical results and interpretations, and provide information to clients new to a project; assist with the initiation of new studies.
  • Maintains active role in professional and industry associations and organizations.
  • May be required to travel to external locations, within the UK or internationally.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in geology or related field is a minimum, with an emphasis on stratigraphy and up to 10 years' of directly related experience. Knowledge of StrataBugs and log analysis or related software is a plus. Ability to present work performed and results in open forums as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients, management, and other employees of the organization. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and scientific journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and calculate area, circumference and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and interpret various graphs used to analyze data. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of geological data problems. Ability to deal with formulas, scientific equations, and graphs. Must be computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office.
