Role Summary:

As a Lead Engineer - Embedded Software (Firmware) you will design, develop, maintain and support real-time embedded software applications for smart valve positioners and other instruments at Baker Hughes.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Lead Engineer - Embedded Software Engineer, you will:
  • Design, develop, maintain and support real-time embedded software applications for smart valve positioners and other instruments
  • Participate in industrial solution development including connectivity, UI, drivers, control and diagnostics
  • Work seamless with hardware teams for next generation digital products
  • Work seamless with software team for system integration and digital industrial application
  • Engage in technical discussions, participate in technical designs and present technical ideas through global collaboration
  • Participate in hardware-software design optimization and performance analysis
  • Drive design reviews and provide feedback on design and development
  • Participate in unit testing, validation testing, and in depth debugging and troubleshooting
  • Participate in the proof of concept R&D effort for innovation and problem solving
  • Drive code review, safety review and quality review
  • Participate in product security review
  • Maintain code quality through best practices, unit and functional testing and test automation
  • Provide engineering support for product tool chains and development infrastructure improvement, including PC based tools to support engineering, manufacturing and field services
  • Participate in development process improvement, programming standard update and code review
  • Provide engineering support for customer issue resolution
  • Be fully conversant with Company safety policies and procedures and always behave in a manner that satisfies HSE requirements
  • Ensure that all business dealings, discussions, and negotiations are conducted in full compliance with the guidelines as set out in the Companies' code of ethics

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in embedded software (firmware) design & development

Desired Characteristics:
  • Master's Degree in electrical, computer or control engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Industrial equipment software development involving mechanical, electronics and software disciplines
  • Proficient in programming C / C++
  • Knowledge in assembly language
  • Experienced in real-time embedded application
  • Experience in uC / OS-II RTOS and IAR tool chains
  • Experience in low level hardware design and debugging experience including I2C, SPI, ARM, JTAG, etc
  • Experience in Control Valve application
  • Knowledge of feedback control and optimization
  • Experience in the area of developing, implementing and validating microcontroller device support package including device drivers, boot loader, and other core firmware components
  • Experience in field device communication (e.g. HART, FF) protocol
  • Experience in Safety Critical / Safety related application development including MISRA, SIL2 / 3, LINT, etc
  • Knowledge in TFS SDLC
  • Experience in lower power electronics (
  • Knowledge in process automation and DCS integration
  • Experience in Safety application development
  • Experience in agile methodologies and continuous integration / delivery
  • Able to thrive in a multi-discipline, fast paced dynamic and global collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical and practical aptitude with the ability of fast prototyping and architecting a system solution
  • Strong hardware aptitude
