The Appraisal General Manager (AGM) role has a global scope, both accountable for opportunities within the Eastern/Western hemisphere and for ensuring consistency of approach across the globe. The scope of this role includes preparing projects that are sufficiently mature to enter Concept Development and evaluating opportunities through Concept Selection to Optimize handover to a PGM/project delivery team. The AGM is responsible for supporting the implementation of standardised appraisal management processes and tools; working actively with upstream resources as appropriate. The position can be based in either Sunbury, UK or Naperville/Chicago, IL. US.

The AGM may have an Appraisal Manager as a direct report to help manage the activities and relationships for specific regions/sites.BP has a wide portfolio of potential future projects. The role of the Downstream Projects Development Team is to help create safe, cost effective and competitive business and development cases for major downstream manufacturing project opportunities across refining, petrochemicals, and lubricants. The AGM may have an Appraisal Manager as a direct report to help manage the activities and relationships for specific regions/sites.Key Accountabilities:
  • Develops strong relationships with a wide range of functions/businesses that develop opportunities.
  • Provides technical leadership and champions a stage-gated process and coordinated input from project team members for project evaluation and execution ensuring activities are conducted in line with the relevant internal and external policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Accountable for delivery of competitive, selectable concepts to progress projects through Concept Development and into Optimise in a timely manner for an effective handover to the PGM during Optimise.
  • Plans and leads the development of contracting, purchasing, and construction management/ execution strategies.
  • Manages and reports project cost, schedule, safety, and operability, along with any other significant metrics of project success.
  • Proactively identifies and shares lessons learned through close collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders and develops and communicates themes/trends from issues and incidents, while ensuring project engineering related lessons are captured and codified into technical practices.
  • Demonstrates behaviours which promote a safe and environmentally responsible work process in all aspects of the job; Champions the utilization of HSSE Best Practices and works with the HSSE Project Team to identify and effectively mitigate HSSE risk.
  • Ensures personal compliance with BP's Code of Conduct and demonstrates strong leadership through BP's Leadership Expectations and Values & Behaviours.

Essential Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering.
  • Professionally accredited and recognized to an international standard by professional association/s - e.g. SPE or similar.
  • An advanced degree or PMP accreditation would be helpful.

Essential Experience & Job Requirements:
  • Requires both strong interpersonal and technical skills to create cross functionally integrated development cases.
  • Ability to communication effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical background supported by wide understanding of other disciplines.
  • Own personal safety performance improvement and driving process safety.

Desirable Criteria:
  • Substantive previous experience as an Appraisal Manager or business development manager.
  • Set and achieve realistic delivery schedules, taking all necessary actions to deliver the agreed commitments.
