Role Summary:

Baker Hughes Inspection Technologies seeks an R&D Electrical Engineer for the R&D Engineering Team. This candidate will delight customers by helping to develop the most advanced hand-held remote visual inspection (RVI) equipment in the world.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of R&D Electrical Engineer, you will:
  • Design and develop portable world-class Non-Destructive Test (NDT) systems that are primarily Remote Visual (RVI), but may also include Ultrasound (UT) and Eddy Current (EM)
  • Lead and participate in the development of electrical architectures and detailed electrical designs, mainly through circuit board design in the Altium toolset. The primary design challenges are low noise and high bandwidth circuitry, lowest reasonable power, wired and wireless connectivity, digital signal processing, world-wide industrial usability and durability, and dealing with typical battery-operated system challenges
  • Develop and validate on-board FPGA RTL signal processing and system control code in VHDL using offline simulation and in-situ validation tools
  • Work with platform and program teams to optimize designs for customer satisfaction, cost effectiveness, and reusability
  • Devise and execute cross-functional (HW, SW, Mechanical) experiments to alleviate high risk portions of designs, thereby enabling programs to launch on time
  • Develop electronic manufacturing test strategies to ensure a high-quality product delivery to our mission-critical customer base
  • Provide technical leadership to rotational, contractor, and co-op talent
  • Document products and technical data generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university (OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with minimum of 5 years of product development experience)
  • Minimum 3 years of product development experience (undergraduate co-op experience will be considered)

Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Circuit board design and layout using the Altium ECAD toolset
  • Experience with NDT, Industrial or Medical product design
  • Proficient in the use of common laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes and network analyzers
  • Experience with FPGA design tools including Quartus or Vivado
  • Analog circuit design and simulation in a SPICE-based tool
  • Interest and capability to do limited software development in C/C++ as needed to support experiments or microcontroller implementations
