Job summary:

Schlumberger is a company specializes in oilfield activities. A lot and large electronic is used into the different tools, but due to the environment and high-temperature constraint different kind of technology can be used depending of tool mission profile. Within the designs several kinds of components are used: commercial components with a specific temperature uprating or/and ASICs. Currently with the increase of tool rating temperature and operating speed, ASICs are more and more used for its advantage in term of temperature capability, integration, consumption...

Objective of the ASIC architect will be to develop analog and mixed-signal ASICs for downhole tools. The ASIC architect will support/help the different projects during the complete cycle of ASIC development.

The engineer will be integrated in the Microelectronics CPE (Center for Practice Excellence) and will work in very close cooperation with projects teams and with others Electronics CPEs.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Define innovative microelectronics architectures for measurement chipsets ASICs
    • Create advanced signal processing concept
    • Create innovative microelectronics topologies to overcome IC limitations
  • Engineering Support of design teams in ASIC development
    • Architecture concept definition:
      • ASIC system modeling from high level signal processing to hardware description
    • Selection of appropriate technology and foundry regarding tool mission profile and performance requirement
    • Selection of appropriate contract design house / supplier
    • Redaction of documents needed for ASIC development
    • ASIC design together with the design house
    • Lead and support of ASIC test, characterization, and qualification
  • ASIC Technology development and validation
    • Selection of technology used for ASIC development regarding downhole constraint (Temperature, technology capability...)
    • Definition and validation of complete ASIC design and production flow
      • Usage and limits of the process
      • Definition of design rules and guidelines
      • Project milestones and check lists...
      • Statement of Work
    • Qualification of technology and ASIC foundry
    • Development of high temperature extended simulation models (PDK)
      • Model parameter extraction
      • Compact modelling
  • Technology watch and trainings
    • Look for market evolution and validate new ASIC technologies
    • Participation to workshop, conference...
    • University relationship development

  • Master Degree or PhD
  • French and English
  • Experience > 5 years
  • Special skills:
  • Microelectronics, Electronics, Sensor, Instrumentation
  • Transistor level Analog, mixed, power and digital IC design
  • Experience in Cadence IC design tools (Virtuoso, LayoutXL and Encounter)
  • HDL syntax (Verilog, Verilog-A, VHDL)
  • Architecture system model, signal processing

The following skills will be appreciated:
  • Experience in architecture definition
    • Signal processing
      • Sensor acquisition, signal modulation, telemetry
      • Python, Matlab, Mathcad
  • Experience in microelectronic:
    • Physics of Microelectronics structures and failures mechanism
      • CMOS, Bipolar & HEMT transistors, passives devices
    • Manufacturing process of microelectronic devices
    • Analog, mixed signal, Digital and Power design IC expertise:
      • Schematic and parametric simulations, VHDL/Verilog simulation
      • Analog physical design layout
      • Digital Place & Route, Synthesis, Static Timing Analysis
  • Experience in device modeling
    • BSIM4, HEMT compact modeling for Cadence IC
  • FPGA prototyping
    • ASIC concept HDL implementation
  • Fluent in English, good writing skills. International experience well appreciated.
