In Schlumberger Sustaining is part of TLM (Technology Lifecycle Management). This organization combines Maintenance in the field and Sustaining in the Product Centers. Sustaining Team members have therefore many opportunities to interact with the field organization, Manufacturing and Engineering.

The D&M FE Sustaining Mechanical engineer is an excellent opportunity to work on an exciting technology at the core of the Drilling and Measurement portfolio. Technical challenges include improving reliability while reducing Cost of Service Delivery, as both are key to Schlumberger. There are also opportunities for rapid response projects as the field develops need for customization of existing products to new applications. The Sustaining Engineer is also involved in the modernization of the fleet through maintenance transformation and Digital Platform initiatives. The sustaining engineer works closely with other sustaining team members, including Electrical Engineers, Physicists, Mechanical Designers, Technicians, Field Service Quality Engineers, and InTouch, as well as regular interaction with Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The Sustaining Engineer also leverages the expertise of failure analysis labs, technical services, and the CPEs as applicable to the various technical challenges encountered in sustaining investigations or projects.

• Responsible technologies include:

o arcVISION - measures formation resistivity

o ImPulse - measures wellbore direction and resistivity, provides uphole telemetry

o adnVISION - measures formation density and porosity with nuclear detectors

o proVISION - magnetic resonance porosity measurement

o PeriScope and GeoSphere - formation resistivity geosteering

o geoVISION - formation resistivity geosteering and wellbore imaging

• Field support includes

o Collaborating with the field on failure investigations and implementing corrective actions, as needed

o Cost reduction analysis and initiatives

o Analyzing and optimizing the maintenance program

o Developing strategies for repair of aging field parts

Manufacturing support includes

o Manufacturing support for technical issues

o Vendor support (i.e. technical questions, issue with parts)

o Understanding and addressing product quality issues

Mechanical components on the tools to support include complex drill collars and other machined parts, motors, alternators, welding, brazing, elastomers, and face seals.


• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.

• Must have strong troubleshooting skills.

• Knowledge of FEA, Pro E preferred.
