Role Summary

The Senior Counsel for Baker Hughes India will be responsible for providing commercial and business legal support, working closely with the India leadership team to set the legal strategy, as well as provide effective leadership and support in contract structuring, review and negotiation, operational execution, governance and dispute management. This role will report directly to Managing Region Counsel, and work with the wider Baker Hughes Legal team.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Partner closely with the India Leader, Product Company Leaders, and other Leaders to develop and maintain delivery of effective and impactful Legal services for the India business
  • Be accountable for driving the business goals and objectives in India in a compliant manner
  • Partner with the Legal Compliance team, Company Secretary and other members of the Legal team to develop and implement Legal Compliance initiatives and training, supervise and work closely towards implementation of regulatory compliance and other corporate governance initiatives and minimize risk to the business
  • Manage outside counsel relationships and activity
  • Manage Legal budget to achieve maximum cost efficiencies, including minimizing use of outside counsel
  • Provide legal advice, stewardship and governance to the Leadership and business on strategic initiatives and relationships, including alliance, frame or strategic agreements, joint ventures, channel partner relationships, and other growth and profitability initiatives
  • End to end responsibility for managing commercial contracts for products, services and projects through the ITO (Inquiry to Order) and OTR (Order to Remittance) phases, including review and negotiation of contracts, advising on contract execution issues, collection of past dues or bad debts, customer issue resolutions and dispute resolution or litigation
  • Provide advice and counsel on controllership and regulatory matters related to the Baker Hughes business in India

  • Legal degree from accredited law school with a demonstrable superior academic record and training, admission to the PRC bar or other bar license.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of legal post-qualification experience, preferably including experience in an in-house corporate legal department
  • Demonstrable fluency in English, including ability to draft and negotiate legal and commercial documents in such languages
  • A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to function as a member of a management team
