Position Summary

The Fabrication Shop Supervisor is responsible for general oversight of the fabricators and their work efficiency, as well as assigning work to those individuals and tracking progress and quality of all work done in the Fabrication Shop.
The Fabrication Shop Supervisor enforces safety measures and regulations, and is responsible for planning and estimating, machine tools, materials and certifications.


Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

 

  • Estimate jobs from blueprints and determine the cost of parts or the entire job including labor and materials.
  • Supervise Fabricators. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Formulate and implement work schedules, which includes writing job followers.
  • Coordinate all aspects of Fabrication Shop projects with customers and other departments.
  • Determine material and tooling requirements and expedite material acquisition.
  • Trouble-shoot production and technical problems.
  • Oversee layout, design, and production of tools.
  • Interview and test applicants.
  • Advise, consult, or counsel others throughout the organization in order to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas and actions.
  • Explain and interpret routing information to others or conducting routine business with suppliers, vendors, etc.
  • Contact engineering regarding drawings or ideas to assist in method improvement.
  • Create new or improved methods, products or systems. Requires independent thinking in collaboration with other professionals to address operational, functional, or financial issues.
  • Management responsibility equivalent to that of a Shop Manager/Program Manager, with responsibility for results in terms of costs, schedules and performance of assigned area.
  • Requires very high level of physical and mental coordination and close and continuous concentration equivalent to the coordination of mind, hand, and eye.
  • Constant exposure to conditions where severe or fatal injury or illness could occur. Examples are heavy equipment operation, welding on pipes or tanks containing petroleum products, and handling highly toxic radiological and/or chemical substances.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

 

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus six years formal training (vocational, business, or technical school), OR Associate's Degree in related field.
  • Minimum ten to fifteen years of experience is required to know the procedures and effects of metal fabrication.
  • Must have experience managing employees and supervising projects.
  • Able to read blueprints.
  • Must have a strong background in math and material formation and peripherals.
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance.

Working Conditions
This position is considered SHOP/INDOORS which is characterized as follows.

 

 

  • Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night.
  • Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%.
  • Noise is over 85 decibels.
  • Light is intense/glare.
  • Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Includes exposure to contaminants.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
  • Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.
