Role Summary/Purpose

The VFD & Motor Field Service Engineer provides on-site technical direction to customer-owned utility and industrial power plants for their VFD and motor Systems. Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID's, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment in the AMERICAS region, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements and safely accomplish the maintenance and repair. The VFD & Motor Field Service Engineer is committed to follow the monitored equipment Baker Hughes equipment (rotating machinery, electrical equipment and relevant auxiliaries). Focused on data analysis, will act as customer entry point for troubleshooting and fleet KPI assessment both at site. Continuous alignment with project and service engineering teams and vendors will be requested.

He/she will prepare technical reports and suggest improvements to optimize service so that it is aligned with customer expectations.

Essential Responsibilities

In the role of VFD & Motor Field Service Engineer, you will:
  • Perform inspection, troubleshooting, testing and maintenance of variable frequency drives (VFD) for both load Commutated Inverter (LVI) and Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) technologies and large motors (synchronous, induction) > 15 MW - including e-Houses.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical circuits and electrical troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of prints / print reading, such as manufacturing drawings, P&IDs and schematic drawings
  • Working knowledge of transformers and harmonic filters and switchgears equipment, Instrumentation, sensor, including Bentley Nevada probes installation and settings
  • Working knowledge of VFDs (MV7000, MV9000, SYMOVERT S) and controls systems / software (RXi_XP, P80i, PLC 5's and SLC with RSLinx software, SIMADYN D )
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Motor (Model No. 291R708, N12 HXCP 1000L/2, EN317133, TM1HYDp280)
  • Pre-outage planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures
  • Proven experience with Baker Hughes Visor Connect Box tools, analytics and data analyses for VSDS
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Provide support to other engineering and business functions for data collection and analysis
  • Work in cooperation with Baker Hughes Engineering teams, Project Management and VSDS and electrical BOP vendors to carry out root cause analyses, support customers and expedite issue resolution

Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience on rotating machinery and electrical equipment including Variable Speed Drive Systems (VSDS), motors and relevant auxiliaries

Eligibility Requirements
  • Travel up to 60% of the time, as required

Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of Baker Hughes Power Conversion & Siemens products and applications with reference to service environment
  • English fluency and ability to work in a global environment
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery (centrifugal compressors, gas turbines, etc.)
  • Knowledge of centrifugal compressor performance
  • Ability to post process steady state and high frequency data
  • Experience with Bentley Nevada System1 or other industry vibration condition monitoring systems and vibration analysis
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work in fast paced, challenging and dynamic environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to act on his / her own initiative
  • Ability to work across multi-functional and global teams
  • Ability to influence and good presentation skills
