Worley is currently recruiting for a Process Engineer to join our Oil and Gas project delivery operation based in Aberdeen for upto 3 months.

 

The Dunlin Alpha installation is preparing for decommissioning. A key part of the scope is management of the residual materials within the Concrete Gravity Base Structure (CGBS) subsea storage cells. During investigations to define the residual inventory and characterise the fluids, high volumes of gas, containing H2S and CO2, have been discovered making the fluids more challenging to manage. There are four cell groups, one of which is exhibiting signs of having a residual oil layer, Fairfield wish to recover this inventory. A temporary process is required to pump the fluids to the topsides, vent the associated gases and then dispose of the liquids. The fluids have a high vapour pressure and are exhibiting slugging flow characteristics in the vertical line from the cell group into the leg. Evidence of wax particulates has also been seen in the fluids thus far recovered.

 

As part of this scope Fairfield will also require to monitor progress of the recovery operations and report both the volume of and nature of the materials extracted from the cells. The desired outcome is that the oil inventory can be recovered until the water phase is reached and that pumping will continue for a period in the water phase in order to take samples and verify the condition of the fluids in the cells.

 

The project is looking for process engineering expertise to complete the detailed design for the Cell Group B oil recovery project. This will involve:

  • Defining the process flow diagram and design operating cases - noting that system should be designed to extract the oil phase and the water phase
  • Modelling of the fluids in HYSYS to define H&MB
  • CalculationEquipment sizing, pumping duty, pump NPSH, residence time for gas disengagement
  • Line sizing, pressure drops and flowrates
  • Standpipe top-up requirements
  • Multi-phase flow regimes
  • Liaising with equipment vendors
  • Liaising with wells team to ensure fluids meet injection specification for disposal to well
  • Creation of equipment datasheets
  • Developing P&IDs
  • Writing/input to operating procedure
  • Input to HAZOP and assistance with action close-out

Role Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
  • Competent in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation
  • Competent in the use of design and assessment methods used within discipline
  • Competent in use of analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs
  • Competent in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work
  • Competent in design safety/environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities
  • Able to technically direct design personnel within discipline
