Role Summary:

Director - Data & Analytics is responsible for the Architecture & Governance of the BAKER HUGHES D&A platform. The leader will have ownership of the development, implementation and sustenance of an enterprise architecture & governance strategy for the Next gen data platform. This role leads directly an internal team that will devise architecture roadmap & governance practices for the platform liaising closely with the platform operations and applications teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

This role is responsible to implement Data Architecture and Governance disciplines to an evolving enterprise data warehouse, data hub, and project-based data applications. This role clearly articulates the Vision, Strategy, Governance, Technology and Metrics related to Data Warehousing Architecture to his/her direct team, the extended team and to the Organization.

In the role of Director - Architecture, you will:
  • Shape technology direction for Data & Analytics working closely with platform & function/application leaders within D&A
  • Establish architecture & governance vision for different solutions aligning to the overall technology direction, addressing the needs of the business and supplemented with an actionable strategy & measurable outcomes
  • Develop a roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive data architecture viewpoint evolving into a temperature-based data store with data lake and data hub components allowing for extensibility into unstructured data for the future
  • With a platform mindset, ensure different architecture elements fit to the big picture and are reusable for different use cases
  • Evangelize architecture vision within the team, with the product management, technology organization & scrum teams
  • Build a Visualization & data egres strategy including best practices for ETL in a data warehouse (Incremental loads, CDC, conformed dimensions) as well as SOA architecture including tools and methodologies for API and data endpoints
  • Implements a CI/CD strategy for updating and integrating data along with the tools and strategy for data recovery automation and monitoring
  • Define a governance and data cataloging strategy as well as tooling needed for Governance
  • Collaborate with Information Security teams and incorporate their recommendations on the Data Governance and Classification frameworks
  • Develop a team that can build data models and diagrams along with naming conventions for enterprise asset tables
  • Give guidance on when to use different types of database design RDBMS, Document store, Graph DB, MPP, Columnar etc.
  • Creates construct for reviewing architectural implementations at business domain level and across multiple teams to ensure other architects are using best practices
  • Determine the technologies that are needed to enable the Data Governance vision and strategy, and where and how this technology is sourced
  • Guide architects in architecture and design of components, services and applications with long-term focus
  • Help program team in technical risk retirement, IP assessment and in buy-build decisions
  • Plan and drive technical design reviews as appropriate
  • Coach and mentor architects and staff software engineers

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 8 years of data warehousing experience
  • Minimum 5 years of People Management experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Erwin or similar tool to build data models

  • Implemented or worked on warehousing in the cloud with AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Maintained and implemented db hardware farms and familiar with HA concepts
  • Deep Understanding of ETL tools and new technologies such as pyspark, spark
  • Experience with streaming data practices using tools like kafka and kinesis
  • Resourceful and quick learner; able to efficiently seek out, learn, & apply new areas of expertise as needed
  • Passionate about driving change and influence across the enterprise, demonstrated experience influencing and promoting change
  • Entrepreneurial inclination to discover novel opportunities for applying analytical techniques to business / scientific problems across the company
  • Master's in Computer Science preferred
  • Responsible for implementing a large scale data warehouse/data lake across a multi ERP business entity landscape
  • Fluent in data modelling practices including Inmon/Kimball, bus architecture, Types of Dimensions for CDC
