POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Pipeline Technician safely and efficiently operates field gathering and/or pipeline systems associated with the transportation of natural gas liquids as directed by his/her Field Supervisor. This person operates and maintains the field compression facility, processing plant, and/or pipeline system. The person should have a detailed knowledge of the plant and field operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assisting with the area compressor station operations: including maintenance, station monitoring and documenting, scheduling liquid loading at the facility and mechanical work on equipment including vapor recovery unit and separations equipment.
  • Gain knowledge of all Targa field safety policies i.e. pipeline repairs, ditch shoring, etc.
  • Maintain accurate reports and data for DOT compliance
  • Monitor pipeline balances
  • Monitor pipeline line codes for losses (leaks)
  • Oversee third party contractors on a daily basis
  • Participate and inspect on new construction of pipeline and well connects
  • Participate in pigging operations; load and launch pigs, track and receive pigs and compressor station operations during pigging procedures.
  • Perform operations and maintenance on O2 analyzers
  • Perform pipeline inserts (polyethylene pipe inside deteriorated steel pipeline)
  • Perform pipeline locates and monitor work of contractors and pipeline companies working around Targa pipelines and right-of-ways
  • Perform record keeping and reporting requirements i.e. MAXIMO - leak repairs, etc.
  • Perform repairs on steel pipelines and polyethylene pipelines
  • Perform valve maintenance on assign area of the system
  • Responsible for overall operation of field gathering and pipeline systems
  • The Pipeline Technician will gain a solid understanding of the liquefied petroleum gas properties
  • This person will have a good knowledge of how to operate LEL, H2S and O2 detector and pipeline operations
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting pipeline construction and operation including local, county and state regulation, with emphasis on Federal (DOT) regulations
  • Regular and reliable attendance are required




WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions
  • Ability to frequently throughout the work shift, push, pull and lift at least a minimum of 50lbs to a minimum height of 3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs and platforms at varying heights
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):



1. Education & License:
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Maintain a valid driver's license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company (Class A CDL preferred)
  • Associates degree from an accredited technical school (preferred)

2. Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience


3. Skills/Competencies:

  • Must have a mechanical aptitude
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
  • An organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
  • Well-grounded, preferring to work in a collegial and team environment
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and common sense
  • Intermediate computer skills (Proficiency in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

4. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand pipeline maps and alignment sheet
  • Certified Polyethylene Pipe Fusing
  • Pipeline Hot Tap Certification
  • H2S Certified
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Certified
  • Previous petroleum industry or oil filed experience is strongly desired
  • Able to work in an H2S environment wearing SCBA equipment
