Position: Gas Chromatography Laboratory Supervisor - Novi, MI

Reporting to: Manager-HSE Laboratory Division

Role Purpose Statement: The incumbent will work independently and/or as part of a team to provide operational support to the laboratory.

Job requirements may include, but are not limited to:
Ø Managing the day-to-day operation of the department
Ø Control/authority over staff, which includes recommending hiring and firing
Ø Ensuring the overall quality of the analytical data produced by the department
Ø Providing technical guidance to laboratory personnel (i.e., QA/QC, problem solving and resolution)
Ø Reviewing and approving analytical data
Ø Recommending capital equipment and preparing justifications
Ø Responsibility and authority for ensuring that the quality system of the laboratory is implemented and followed at all times
Ø Routine sample preparation
Ø Performing routine analysis for the analytical departments
Ø Client interaction ØWriting and reviewing SOPs and STPs
Ø Data entry
Ø Internal systems/processes
Ø Instrument/analytical problem solving
Ø Training new employees
Ø Process improvement
Ø Consulting in upper-level decisions within the department
Ø Working independently and problem solving any issues that may come up in the department
Ø Answering the majority of questions that may arise from the client service group
Ø Thorough understanding of QA/QC procedures

Ø Quality and quantity of work meets laboratory benchmarks
Ø Follows safety requirements including the appropriate use of safety glasses, gloves, lab coats
Ø IDC sample requirements are met Ø Company procedures and policies adhered to
Ø On-going participation in laboratory skills inventory
Ø Turnaround times achieved Ø Band VI

Minimum EDUCATION / Experience & other requirements TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Ø College degree in science
Ø 5 years of experience directly related to industrial hygiene and/or environmental techniques in fast-paced production setting
Ø Ability to interact with clients and all levels of staff
Ø Leadership experience desired
Ø Detail oriented, self-starter, strong written and verbal skills
Ø Capable of making sound decisions quickly and effectively
Ø Ability to handle multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment Ø Comprehensive computer skills - Internet, MS Office, Lotus Notes Ø Able to operate lab instruments including relevant software and computer programs
