Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Controller to join the AIS (Asset Integrity Solutions) department in Aberdeen.

The primary role of the project controller is to provide cost control and reporting support to Wood STS service line proposals, projects and clients. In addition, supporting schedule development and updates where required; and assistance to the project control focal point.

The project controller will be able to run all required project controls systems and tools to enable the required estimation, collation and reporting of project costs and schedule on projects and specific assignments.

  • Monitor and control cost commitments and expenditures through all phases of the project / assignment
  • Monitor the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals
  • Liaise with the client, contractor and intercompany project controllers as appropriate to ensure alignment with the project reporting requirements; and ensure timely and accurate cost and progress reporting
  • Liaise with project accounting and time-capture functions and third parties as required to ensure accurate and timely capture of hours and costs
  • Attendance at weekly progress meetings
  • Facilitate the collection of weekly progress figures from the project team and any 3rd party contractors
  • Produce weekly and monthly project cost and schedule status reports
  • Maintain project plans and schedules using appropriate scheduling software
  • Provide copies of project plans and schedules in accordance with project reporting requirements
  • Produce and issue updates to project plans and schedules
  • Produce and issue updates to project manpower requirements
  • Attend internal project progress and performance status meetings as required
  • Reporting of planned v's actual progress figures
  • Maintenance of project S-Curves and Histograms
  • Cost (Wood revenue) tracking and reporting of live projects internally and to customers
  • Cost (Wood cost v Wood revenue, margin) tracking and reporting of live projects
  • Work closely and assist project accountants and billing specialists in the billing process and any other cost related queries to ensure accurate and timely invoicing and cash collection Support the development of a standardised CTR model for the AIS business
  • Assist CTR estimate preparation and review
  • Assist proposal preparation and review
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of work breakdown and budget set up in the business ERP and offline tracking systems


Skills / Qualifications


  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Experience of project scheduling software (MS Project / Primavera)
  • Knowledge and application of earned value and other monitoring techniques
  • Must be able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently
  • Strong communication and presentation skills - both written and oral
  • Excellent client service focus
  • Exceptional organisational skills, able to multi-task and prioritise to focus on required deliverables



  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in relevant technical or business discipline or can be substituted by suitable experience
  • Project Controls experience
  • Knowledge of cost management and planning systems together with ability to consolidate data from several sources for overall presentation
  • Previous use and knowledge of Oracle preferable but not essential
