Houston Mechatronics, Inc. (HMI) has an immediate opening for a Field Operations Engineer to assist in the installation of HMI's Haloguard automated rig safety system. The Haloguard system is a machine vision-based, artificially intelligent safety monitor that controls access to user-defined hazardous areas on the rig. We are looking for a talented and motivated field engineer with experience working offshore with state-of-the-art systems. In this position you will be part of our installation team and visit rigs, for short periods, to finalize the installation of the Haloguard system. In addition, onshore work in our offices will be for training users on the use of the Haloguard system, supporting system testing, and providing customer support of the installed product customer base.

Successful candidates for this position will have the following credentials:


  • Working knowledge of rig operations and computer systems
  • Proficient at software installation and testing
  • Performing light assembly work of Haloguard components into a complete operating system
  • Familiar with cabling and the electrical integration of equipment on drilling rigs
  • Passionate about organizing and maintaining records for quality assurance
  • Troubleshoot the Haloguard system to maintain proper operation
  • Provide training in a classroom environment to new and prospective users

Desired Skills and Expertise:

  • Certtifications to support travel to and from offshore rigs
  • Technical experiencs working on drilling rigs
  • Technical skills related to computer equipment
  • Skilled in isolating, documenting, and tracking issues systematically
  • Proficient in communicating with other technicians, software engineers, and management
  • Basic electrical technician skills a plus (e.g. soldering, wiring, troubleshooting)
  • Offshore drilling rig experience is beneficial
