Position summary:

We are currently seeking a high-energy professional who is customer-focused with sound business acumen and problem-solving skills to join our dynamic organisation as a Loss Control Specialist. Ideal candidates should be natural team players, eager to learn and grow, and have an eye for innovation and continuous improvement. The successful applicant will be embedded within the S&T business unit alongside the Traders and Operators they support.

Loss Control Specialists are responsible for providing advice and expertise to optimize quality and quantity management for commodity custody movements - including marine, terminal, pipeline, and other transportation modes. You will work closely with Chevron's supply chain, third-party customers, and independent inspectors to minimize movement losses, issue or defend claims and provide advice to the trading teams on custody transfer related matters. The role will require some international travel to visit terminals, facilities and counterparty labs and offices.

Key responsibilities for Loss Control Specialists include:
  • Proactively support the business in seeking to mitigate potential quality and quantity risk on crude, products and gas (LNG/LPG) movements.
  • Provide advice on appropriate measurement practices and recommended contractual quality/quantity clauses.
  • Provide technical support to crude, product and gas trading and operations teams, refining and logistics groups, and represent Chevron in the American Petroleum Institute and Energy Institute work groups.
  • Carry out product integrity inspections and review practices in equity and third-party terminals where measurement / quality issues have been observed.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with industry counterparts, inspection and cargo superintendent companies - including office and field audits, performance against key metrics, review and resolution of any issues related to inspector or superintendent performance.
  • Claims management - handle quality/quantity claims for crude, product and gas trading and operations teams


Desired technical skills/qualifications:
  • Prior experience in cargo inspection, custody transfer measurement, transportation and handling of products, sampling, terminal or refinery operations, marine operations, lab testing or similar, ideally within the oil & gas industry.
  • Knowledge of key crude and products analysis methods.
  • Understanding of terminal and marine operations, refinery operations
  • Familiarity with standard terms and conditions of contract
  • Team player and ability to work in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Strong communication skills - able to successfully communicate technical terms and language in a way that can be easily understood by those without a Loss Control background
