POSITION SUMMARY

 

 

The Technical Service Engineer provides primary technical support for the assigned
process units. This includes monitoring routine operation, assisting in troubleshooting and optimizing the unit for efficiency and yield, and developing improvement projects. The position initiates and support MOC's and PHA revalidations and is an integral part of the PSM process.

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Acts as primary technical expert for assigned units. This includes maintaining understanding of technology changes and developments in assigned units as well as in the refining industry

  • Routinely reviews operating data for assigned unit(s). This includes monitoring catalyst performance, fractionation and energy. Conduct routine unit material balances and issue periodic monitoring reports consistent with the corporate standard

  • Assist Operations Day and Shift Supervisors and operators with troubleshooting of complex problems. Uses simulation tools to identify and troubleshoot problems

  • Optimize unit operation to maximize profitability. This includes SPC optimization, evaluating new technology, modeling unit operation, and understanding plant economics, APC applications, chemical treatment programs

  • Develop and prepare preliminary scope for improvement initiatives

  • Support maintenance and capital improvement projects

  • Support capital and operating expense budget development, including primary responsibility for energy, and for catalyst and chemical budgets as appropriate

  • Support turnarounds with pre-turnaround data collection for work list development, equipment inspection, repair scope development and execution approval, vessel closure, and unit start-up and shutdown

  • Initiate and steward PSM activities for assigned units, including MOC documentation for all unit changes; attending PHA revalidations, closing assigned action items, and closing MOC's (temporary and permanent)

  • Participate on and/or lead incident investigations as required

  • Provide support for unit training and operating manuals

  • Support Linear Program (LP) sub-model development including leading test runs and completing material balances

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering preferred

  • Familiar with process modeling and simulation software

  • Able to multitask and handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

  • May be required to work in the field up to 60% of the time

     

    POSITION PREFERENCES

 

 

  • Previous process engineering experience desired but not required, preferably in a refinery or related industry
