Job summary:

Application domain: petrophysical and mineralogy interpretation

Petrophysical and mineralogical character of recovered rocks (cuttings) is measured through different analytical methods such as: High Resolution Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy.

The Analytical Measurement Group is working on new automated solutions for rock identification and characterization based on microscopy techniques.

The main goal of the position will be orientated into the evaluation of different microscopy/camera, illumination and emerging imaging techniques: IR camera, hyperspectral camera and polarization camera applied to rock characterization. Vision system coupled to UV florescence and infrared spectroscopy will be also considered for mineral identification.

Essential responsibilities and Duties:
  • Design and implementation of a vision system
  • Hardware selection: automated stage, illumination, optical system, camera
  • Software design for camera control
  • Image processing and segmentation of rock features

  • Masters or Engineering Diploma (with 0 to 3 years of experience), specialty: optics or physics

  • Knowledge in programing languages: Matlab; python;
  • Strong background in optics or physics knowledge in chemistry.
  • Experience in image processing (filtering, segmentation), surface metrology (Mountains software)
  • Good motivation, independence and ingenuity
