Do you want to boost your technical expertise on one of Europe's most complex petrochemicals sites? Then this could be the ideal outlet for your fired equipment/combustion engineering skills.
We are currently looking to recruit a seasoned Fired Equipment Engineer (Combustion Engineer) to join our team in Pernis.

Where you fit in

Join Shell at Pernis - one of Europe's largest petrochemicals sites - and you'll find ample opportunities to exploit and deepen your skills in a complex and diverse organisation. We've fostered a culture where the men and women on site truly care about each other and work together to improve safety, reliability, environmental performance and operating costs.

What's the role?

Part of our Energy Technology team, we'll entrust you with responsibility for all aspects of fired equipment on the Pernis site. You will be the site focal point for operational, technological and process safety & compliance support to the app. 55 furnaces on site.

You support operational excellence from a technology point of view on a daily basis and you will be the the technological conscience for the systems. You work with operations to ensure the systems are operated optimally within the operating window and initiate and support structural improvement projects.

In this role, you will closely cooperate with - and provide coaching of - the graduate combustion engineer in the team. Your focus areas will be tailored depending on, amongst others, previous experience.

You'll find yourself in a very visible role that's right in the heart of our operations:
• The furnace technology found onsite is diverse and of a wide age range which means that there is wealth of projects in the funnel for new equipment and conversion, upgrade and reinstatement of existing equipment
• Our complex and recently renewed environmental permit requires careful monitoring of our overall emissions envelope and also entails several projects related to furnace and burner upgrades as well as online measurement equipment; you'll need to carefully monitor overall permit compliance
• We foster a culture of continuous learning in which knowledge sharing with and support to operations is key. You will be the knowledge base on fired equipment for the production units
• Energy efficiency and safe operation have always been high on the agenda meaning that you will keep a close watch on the performance of the furnaces for which various monitoring tools have been developed
• You can easily tap in to knowledge of other subject matter experts in Shell and share best practices through a dedicated and lively network with other manufacturing sites and the Shell Projects & Technology group

And moreover: the high ambitions of Shell and the Dutch government with respect to reducing the CO2 footprint following the "Paris" agreement will have a significant impact on the refinery. You will be able to play an important role in shaping the future for Pernis through participation in assessments of alternatives for conventional firing such as oxy firing with CCS, hydrogen firing and electric (hybrid) furnaces
