Job Description

The SMPO technology group works as an integral part of the global SMPO and PO-derivatives technical community, with staff in P&T and at manufacturing locations working together with business and M colleagues to add value to the SMPO business bottomline. The group provides technical support for the SMPO and derivatives plants that are located in Netherlands, Singapore and China as well as for the conventional ethyl-benzene and styrene (EBSM) plant in Canada. A new SMPO project in China is currently in the Execute phase. Multiple opportunities for new plants are being looked at globally as part of aggressive business Growth strategy.
Technical challenges of the job concentrate on improving the reliability, adding HSE and energy savings projects, improving product yields and adding further cost effective capacity expansion at existing assets and supporting the design including startups of new SMPO plants. The SMPO process is still on a steep learning curve; recent learnings have been incorporated in the new SMPO plant design.
Close interaction and sharing of information between the SMPO plants and the CoE is one of the success factors we would like to build on. The SMPO CoE is located in STCB (Bangalore), where we also have Internal pilot plants (IPPs) for SMPO catalyst improvement R&D. A few members of the team are in STCA (Amsterdam) and at SNC Moerdijk and SJI Singapore in HIP and Development roles to support sites to deliver top quartile technology support to our customers.

Accountabilities:
Provide first class Technology Support to Shell- and JV customers globally. Responsible for agreeing on programs and required resources with customers, providing expertise, organizing and sourcing of other experts, review and delivering high quality services.
Lead and/or support process design including startups for new SMPO plants
Lead and/or support R&D programs for SMPO, EBSM including coaching/guiding the experimentalists in SMPO IPPs.
Act as a mentor for new graduates or lesser experienced colleagues.
Give technological guidance or lead new projects/activities (e.g. DS-M projects).
Further develop know-how and expertise in specific areas within the SMPO process in line with deep expertise program and Shell Chemicals strategy.
Contribute in the development of Best Practices & sharing between the SMPO and EB "sister" plants.
In addition some general activities for the department and any other technical activities as requested by the Team lead will form part of the task.

Requirements

  • A strong technology background and a minimum of 5 years experience in process engineering design and/or technology support in at least one relevant (chemical) technology.
  • Degree or equivalent in Chemical engineering, preferably masters degree or equivalent.
  • Skilled in Aspen or equivalent simulation tools. Results driven
  • Proven team working and networking skills
  • Self starter who works independently
  • Service oriented, naturally helpful and co-operative
