The Measurement Technician is responsible for measurement programs to ensure the integrity and accuracy of oil measurement and that the frequency, sampling methodology, reporting and documentation are performed in accordance with State and Federal regulations.

  • Assist in the operation, calibration and troubleshooting of H2S monitors. Assist in locating and tracking H2S within the pipeline system
  • Assists in the installation, startup, and calibration of instruments and control equipment and programs computer control equipment
  • Assists with repairing and/or replacing faulty instruments, safety equipment and controls, and maintains instruments and control equipment in a clean and workable condition
  • Fill out applicable work/hot work permits, lockout/tag out documentation, attend and participate in tailgate sessions with others involved in work site activities
  • Installation, and maintenance of various brands of flow computers
  • Installation, maintenance and calibration of turbine, Coriolis, ultrasonic, densitometers, provers, pressure, temperature and other transmitters used for measurement
  • Maintains instrument and control equipment data log sheets and computer based database and preventative maintenance system
  • Makes routine and emergency calibrations and adjustments to correct abnormal operation of instruments and controllers and reports such conditions and corrective action to operators
  • Monitor and recognize dangerous and/or emergency conditions within the process and perform procedures necessary to remove the condition or shutdown the process/facility in order to protect personnel, community, environment and equipment
  • Perform scheduled calibrations, gas sampling, troubleshooting, repair and installation of Electronic Flow Measurement equipment, specifically Totalflow
  • Perform tank gauging to measure tank contents and account for product stored and product moved into and out of tanks
  • Recognize malfunctions in individual equipment and perform maintenance as necessary to correct problems
  • Take oil samples and perform routine grind outs to measure sediment and water content and determine quality
  • Tests, calibrates and repairs safety, control, and shut down devices on a regularly scheduled basis. Develops and maintains such schedules
  • Utilize proper Lockout/Tag out operating and safety procedures
  • Witness and verify third party meter calibrations
  • Work with coworkers in the response to emergencies requiring coordination, equipment or plant shutdown, and/or evacuation
  • Write repair work requests for routine and major maintenance that cannot be handled as part of normal operations using a CMMS (MAXIMO)
  • Knowledge of Plant Operations, Engine & Compressor Operations, Maintenance, and Liquid Measurement
  • Have an understanding of crude oil measurement, custody transfer, tank gauging and meter proving
  • Regular and reliable attendance are required

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions
  • Ability to frequently throughout the work shift, push, pull and lift at least a minimum of 50lbs to a minimum height of 3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs and platforms at varying heights
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex)

  • Education & License:
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company
  • Associates degree from an accredited technical school (preferred)
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of work related experience
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
  • An organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
  • Well-grounded, preferring to work in a collegial and team environment
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and common sense
  • Intermediate computer skills (Proficiency in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must have, or be able to acquire, Operator Qualification (OQ) Certification for valve and pump station maintenance and repair per DOT requirements for pipeline operators
  • Must have or be able to acquire a Commercial Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Must have or become trained in OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard and be able to perform spill response duties, if required
  • Previous petroleum industry or oil field experience is strongly desired
  • Understanding of crude oil measurement, custody transfer, tank gauging and meter proving
  • Working knowledge of Totalfow EFM’s, and Del Mar H2S analyzers
  • Understanding of liquid chromatography
  • Experience using a CMMS system such as Maximo
