Job Description

The Benchmarking and Appraisal Manager is a member of the extended leadership team that supports the refinery by increasing the overall competitiveness through continuous improvement, particularly in the areas of energy, cost competitiveness, and margin delivery. The Benchmarking and Appraisal Manager will also:
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Cost Competitiveness work at the site with the ultimate goal of finding sustainable improvements to enable the site to reach the benchmark target.
  • Maintain a consistent approach on competitive benchmarking submission for Solomon Study, the interpretation and communication of results to the site, and executing improvements.
  • Develop continuous improvements in manufacturing excellence and provide key information and data to help drive further business development.
  • Produce relevant reports and information packs for different business reviews (i.e. Cost Competitiveness, Margin Improvements, etc..) and staff engagements/training regarding key operational levers (NECC, Maintenance Index, Operational Availability, etc..)
  • Understand key aspects of the manufacturing results: HSSE, product quality, margin, reliability, maintenance, fixed and variable costs, and energy.
  • Analyze actual business results to provide meaningful fit-for-purpose management information to sites and senior management.
  • Working with multiple stakeholders who provide information that needs to be developed into a concise consolidated picture
  • Understand how top quartile performance is defined for each of the key results areas and what drives the gap between current performance and top quartile performance.
  • Pursue actionable improvements and strategic insights from a comparative analysis of both internal and external benchmarking data.
  • Drive the data from insight to action, supporting results delivery across the M Business.
  • Influence the organization through clear and persuasive analysis, drawing on internal and external perspectives.
  • Challenge and support the delivery by the sites of their three-year business plan and ten-year Strategic Asset Management Plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Finance
  • 8+ years of work experience in benchmarking for refineries
  • Aptitude with numbers and ability to see interrelationships between discrete pieces of information and connect them into a coherent story
  • Strong analytical and logical skills
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with stakeholders
  • Proven leadership capability to lead a team with varying backgrounds and strengths.
  • Strong team working ability and able to build and sustain working relationships to operate effectively and without hierarchy across various interfaces, often virtually.
  • Sound knowledge of refinery key optimization levers, gained through previous roles.
