The Marathon Oil Oklahoma Resource Basin Subsurface team is seeking a Geoscience Technician to support the STACK/SCOOP subsurface team. The successful candidate will work closely with the technical staff and management in support of a variety of development activities and functions. This position will report to the Development Supervisor for the ORB Asset Team and will be located in Houston, TX.
Knowledge about subsurface data types, data usage and import/export utilities in multiple software applications is essential. Working with historic databases and creating/analyzing data tables, data graphs and geospatial mapping is key. Working knowledge of geologic/subsurface software such as GeoGraphix/Petra, Petrel, Decision Space and Spotfire is ideal. Must be able to mine and QC large amounts of data, make maps, and reservoir modeling input tables.
- Generate a variety of maps using data generated by geoscience and engineering staff
- Utilization of internal/external data sources for data mining efforts to support geoscience and engineering analyses. External data source examples include RigData, DrillingInfo, and IHS Enerdeq Browser
- Import, clean, and normalize wells data (surveys, LAS logs, etc.)
- Load data into and understand the use and function of various geoscience applications (i.e. GeoGraphix/Petra, Petrel, Decision Space, and various internal trackers)
- Generation of data visualization materials for technical staff, including charts/graphs and various spatially defined displays
- Assist with the generation and compilation of internal/external presentation materials and regulatory filings
- Provide technical application support to personnel with geoscience support applications
- Assist with management of well and Seismic Data
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required, two-year or four-year degree preferred or equivalent experience. Major discipline: Technician specific curriculum, Geology or other technical related major preferred (i.e. math, natural science, computer science, etc.)
Experience: At least 1-4 years of technician or geoscience related work experience in oil and gas industry; Unconventional development experience is a plus
Computer Skills: Geographix/Petra, Decision Space, Petrel, Spotfire proficiency is a plus, Drilling Info / IHS, basic understanding of programming language (Python, Java, C++, Visual Basic, or other) a plus
General Knowledge: Good understanding of fundamental geoscience principles and the petroleum industry. Working knowledge of geoscience and reservoir engineering data capture, data standards, and workflows, as well as understanding of drilling and completions-related data types.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals.
