Assist in maintaining and repairing mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment onboard the vessel
 

Job Description

This position is available only to candidates who meet applicable company and local government nationalisation /residency requirements.

REPORTING:
Reports to the Chief Mechanic

SUPERVISION:
Supervises the Motor Operator

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communication may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
- Knowledge of technical calculations required for mechanical operations and basic computer skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations/Maintenance:
- Carry out mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic installation, maintenance, and repair in a safe and prudent manner - Authority III
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment - Authority I
- Maintain and repair mechanical systems and equipment i.e. prime movers, air and water system, lubrication and fuel system, etc - Authority II
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment and tools - Authority II
- Assist in maintaining marine equipment, i.e. cranes, thrusters, ballast pumps and valves, auxiliary equipment, etc. - Authority II
- Identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions and/or patterns of equipment - Authority II
- Carry out periodic maintenance according to the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) guidelines and coordinate that maintenance with supervisors and other department heads - Authority III
- Ensure that requirements concerning regulatory bodies are met in all cases of equipment repair and installation - Authority I
- Comply with the permit to work and isolation system - Authority II
- Maintain service reports and advise supervisor on condition of equipment and spare parts requirements - Authority II
- Perform machine work with lathe, drill press, grinding and surfacing equipment - Authority I
- Install, operate, maintain and repair additional or temporary mechanical equipment used for special operations - Authority II
- Assist in implementing outstanding recommendations from equipment audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management - Authority II
- Assist in ensuring that all third-party equipment is fit for purpose, certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig - Authority II
- Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig - Authority I
- Maintain an adequate supply of spares to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation - Authority I
- Ensure that service, maintenance and other operational reports are accurate and complete - Authority I

QHSE: -
- Incorporate the THINK planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team - Authority I
- Participate daily in START Process - Authority I
- Apply START Monitoring during the execution of planned tasks - Authority I
- Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed - Authority I
- Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to company policies and procedures - Authority I
- Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-tour meetings as required - Authority I
- Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisor and other department heads - Authority I
- Respond to emergency situations as per designation on station bill - Authority I
- Assist in preparing Safety Analysis for hazardous situations - Authority II
- Ensure that all relevant safety procedures and practices are adhered to during mechanical maintenance work - Authority I
- Assist in ensuring a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig - Authority I
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for environmental protection - Authority I

Personnel: -
- Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix - Authority I
- Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process - Authority I
- Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure that they are competent to work at their next job level - Authority II
- Supervise and guide the Motor Operator and Mechanic Trainee in their On-the-Job Training (OJT) programs - Authority I
- Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures - Authority I
