ROTATION: 2-3 weeks starting immediately (Temporary)

 

JOB SUMMARY: Navigational watch, inspection/maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment, safety drills, reporting, other duties as required

 

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • Watchkeeping Mate Certificate
  • 2+ years experience on a vessel
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
  • Must have STCW Watchkeeping Mate, STCW Basic Safety Training, DP Induction, Transport Canada Marine Medical, Marine Advanced First Aid and CPR, H2S, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (TDG), Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities (Offshore Fleet)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe and efficient navigational watch in accordance with international regulations, Master's Standing Orders and company procedures and policies and maintain the Deck and Radio Logbooks;
  • Care, inspection and maintenance of all lifesaving and firefighting appliances (i.e. Lifejackets, Survival Suits, GMDSS Radios, EPIRBs, SARTS, Life Rafts, Rescue Boats, Fast Rescue Crafts, Line-throwing appliances, Rocket/Parachute Flares, Smoke Floats, Fireman's Outfits, EEBDs, Fire Extinguishers, Fixed Firefighting Systems, etc.);
  • Verify that the vessel's firefighting and Lifesaving Appliances Plans are posted in proper areas and maintained current;
  • Maintain the SOLAS Training and Firefighting Manuals up-to-date;
  • Record safety meeting minutes and submit meeting reports to the Master for review;
  • Prepare Emergency Drill Reports;
  • Contribute to Company Safety culture by:
    • Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System;
    • Possess the skills to perform job related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks;
    • Have a thorough understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System;
    • Have thorough understanding of pollution regulations and the company's objectives regarding environmental protection.
