Senior Instrument Technician

Job Purpose

Coordinates and carries out the skilled installation, maintenance and calibration and troubleshooting and repair work, on the site on a variety of electronic, electrical and pneumatic, instrumentation and systems relating to either Process or utilities equipment includes flow, pressure and temperature devices, control valves, fire and gas detection systems, product meters, programmable logic controllers, (PLC's) distributed control systems (DCS's) and supervisor control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Performs servicing, condition monitoring, fault diagnosis and restorative tasks on emergency shutdown systems (ESD), manage and demonstrate servicing, condition monitoring, fault diagnosis and restorative tasks on metering systems and equipment.

Knowledge, skills, experience and Job related competencies

Completion of first year of Secondary (10 year education)

  • 3 years diploma or apprenticeship in the instrument trade (equivalent to UK, city and guilds/NVQ or CNC)


Experience Profile

  • 7 years experience in the maintenance, repair and calibration of a variety of electronic, pneumatic and electrical and instrumentation in and oil and gas processing plant including experience with programmable logical control equipment (PLC), emergency shutdown systems and distributed control system (DCS)
