Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Research Engineer located in Richmond, CA California through April 19, 2019 at 11:59 (Eastern Standard Time).
This is a Research Engineer position in the Base Oil R&D team in the Applied Technology group of Process Research Division under Downstream Technology Service of Chevron Energy Technology Company. Researchers in this team do catalyst and process development projects for TEMA, CLG/ART, and Chevron Lubricants. Lubricants projects include hydrocracking and catalytic dewaxing (ISODEWAXING) to make base oils. TEMA and CLG/ART projects include hydrocracking and catalytic dewaxing for base oils and fuels using feedstocks from petroleum, Fischer-Tropsch, and renewable materials. Researchers do experimental work in both research units and bench scale units. There are opportunities to work directly with customers and applications both inside of Chevron and around the world.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Use knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis and/or refining processes to invent and innovate new concepts, catalysts, and/or process configurations in hydroprocessing (hydrotreating, hydrocracking, catalytic dewaxing).
- Design and conduct lab and pilot plant programs using various testing and analytical equipment.
- Transfer technology from the laboratory to commercial operation.
- Responsible for safe and reliable operation of the testing operation and ensure compliance with all the OE requirements.
- Conduct technical programs in hydroprocessing catalyst systems optimization and catalyst development in support of Manufacturing, TEMA and JV customers. This involves keeping close contacts with customers, staying informed of their needs, frequent sharing of test results and ensuring involvement of all the stakeholders in planning/design of test runs.
- PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- A minimum of 2 years of research experience in Catalyst and Process Development
- PhD curriculum must include study in heterogeneous catalysis
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Team work and collaboration
- Communication Skills (oral and written)
Relocation may be considered.
