Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Global New Ventures Petrel/EPOS Support Technologist located in Houston, TX through April 30, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

This position is to lead and coordinate the seismic, well, and GIS data management for two Global New Ventures teams evaluating frontier areas. The teams are made up of senior earth scientists who work on projects across the globe to raise exploration resource opportunities for Chevron.


The position also has a leadership component, requiring building of effective, collaborative relationships within the Global New Ventures teams and with business units to facilitate data management and coordination. Attention todetail, a highly organized approach to work problems, and the ability to multi-task are essential traits given the large amount of data and the broad range of problems to solve. There is a significant component involved in migration of projects from one platform to another. Seismic and well data loading are a critical component, and the ability to quickly learn software tools and apply them creatively is key. Role is also responsible for software license and GLAM management for the team.

Job tasks range from ad-hoc support for data-room visits, to building regional projects from a

combination of sub-projects, to establishing data hierarchies, and data organization schemes for GIS systems and

shared-drive data. The candidate must have data investigation and QC skills to enable delivery of reliable

interpretation projects to the Global New Ventures teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Geology or Geophysics preferred)
  • 5 years minimum experience in Petrel and EPOS software and data management
  • Familiarity with data-loading of seismic, well, and petrophysical interpretations is required
  • Coding abilities (python, VBA, etc.) are desired to help solve data transfer and conditioning problems
  • Proficient in accessing OpenWorks, Petrel, Petra, IHS, Woodmac or equivalent data sources


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with ArcGIS for the management of maps and spatial data
  • Capability to understand and correct for geographic projection changes
