Intellectual property management in Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) is directed toward the capture and protection of internally-generated intellectual property, as well as mitigating against the misuse of intellectual property owned by others, in accordance with corporate policy. The current position supports the Drilling & Completions and Strategic Planning & Orgnizational Capability departments, the latter managing many of ETC's external technical alliances.

This position reports to the Global Intellectual Property Manager.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and capturing intellectual property, and working with Legal to best protect such intellectual property
  • Aligning technology project management with intellectual property management
  • Reviewing external technical presentations and publications prior to their release
  • Searching the patent literature to identify related art and understand patent landscapes
  • Providing intellectual property training to technical staff
  • Participating in the Global Intellectual Property Network, an enterprise-wide intellectual property community of practice
  • Supporting inventor recognition efforts


Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in the Upstream Oil & Gas industry
  • A general understanding of upstream oil and gas operations
  • A general understanding of patenting and a basic understanding of patent law


Preferred Qualifications:





  • An advanced degree in science, engineering, law, or business
  • Technical fluency with drilling and completions
  • Experience in technology licensing and commercialization

  • Decision-making capabilities
