JOB DESCRIPTION

The Global Technical Manager - Emerging Products role is to perform technical management of MPD products within Drilling and Evaluation, to ensure proper system operations so that field teams can accomplish operational tasks to meet business objectives. This includes complete product life cycle management from R&D to product obsolescence as well as receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving technical requests. Specific products include Subsea RCDs, pumps, risers, and other equipment associated with Riserless Drilling, Dual Gradient Drilling, and future drilling variations.  This will also include unique technologies that operate separately from Managed Pressure applications such as DDVs and others.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understand the product value proposition and performance requirements to achieve them to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Establish the prioritization of product development, upgrades, technical resolutions, manufacturing deliveries, special projects, and asset repair and maintenance to meet operational requirements and manage inventory levels.

Lead all MPD Emerging Products technology development, sustaining and commercialization initiatives, working with the Product Line Managers and Product Champion liaising between Engineering and Operations for their respective products.

Be the binding link for product development and support between product line, technical sales, operations, R&D, and sustaining engineering.

Conduct competitor technical assessments to outline competitor strengths and weaknesses regarding operation, safety, maintenance, and reliability.

Provides senior level customer sales and technical support, assisting as required with major tender proposals.

Provides a high level overview of trending operational issues including inventory levels and CAPEX requirements to establish global forecasts and works with the Service Delivery and regions to rectify issues.

Responsible and is the focal point for all Service Line technical support. Plans, coordinates, and manages the MPD Section of the Weatherford Interactive Support Engine (WISE). Escalate problem reports (when required) to the appropriate SME.

Works with Service Delivery group to establish and implement standards for all MPD Emerging Products operations and ensure all necessary corrective actions to improve service quality.

Directs training and competency requirements for all MPD Emerging Products personnel with the Global Training, Development and Staffing Manager.

Know and understand Weatherford's Operational Excellence & Performance System (OEPS) and the Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions

Participates and conducts operational audits to ensure company compliance of standard operating procedures, health, safety and quality standards.

Promote teamwork through open communication to ensure correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements are implemented and followed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong supervisory, organizational and leadership skills

Well organized with ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with defined list of priorities and deadlines

Exceptional verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills including listening, and questioning skills

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Able to exhibit sound judgment with a logical thought process

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Able to plan, execute and document technical work and projects

Ability to respond on Emergency Situations after hours, at night, and during weekends or Holidays

Proficiency in MS Office Products - Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point

Proven analytical and troubleshooting abilities with emphasis on root cause failure analysis

Good knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Control Principles, and Automation System Design in relation to Managed Pressure Drilling systems and products

Ability to read, interpret and revise blueprints, electric drawings and process diagrams

Fluent English speaking and writing

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Earth Sciences

A technical background is essential. Prior field, district, and regional management experience.

5+ years in the Drilling Services industry

Familiarity with software programming languages and coding skills preferred.

Drilling engineering software or well modeling experience preferred.

Familiarity with MPD drilling operations.

Familiarity with MPD drilling equipment such as Subsea RCDs, pumps, risers, and other equipment associated with Riserless Drilling, Dual Gradient Drilling, and future drilling variations.  Additionally, unique technologies that operate separately from Managed Pressure applications such as DDVs and others.  

Field and training experience.

Familiarity with project management.

The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations

Available to travel extensively

Preferred:

3+ years of international experience

Extensive experience in Managed Pressure Drilling and associated technologies

Good understanding of industry standards and certifications, experience in DNV validation and conformation testing

Strong working knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, pneumatics, hydraulics and standards related to the same
