Position Summary

Our Piping and Structural Vibration Consultant Engineers will work closely with the Oceaneering team to support our customer's operations on a Global basis. The team will be deploying the very latest technology and best practice guidelines to assess and minimise the risks from design stage to end of life. In response to our customer needs you will deliver consultancy Projects to understand and solve complex problems in order to mitigate risk.
The team perform detailed Engineering studies and site investigations in order to develop cost effective engineered solutions. They will also develop innovative products to keep Oceaneering at the leading edge within the field of Asset Integrity.
There will be opportunities to participate in Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) and provide technical guidance to Industry Bodies/Technology Centres.


Duties & Responsibilities

The team work across Oceaneering's Global business to support customers and in partnership with customers develop winning proposals for new projects. You will proactively demonstrate the value of Oceaneering's technical offering and optimise the delivery model to make best use of Oceaneering's Global Resources and state of the art technology.

 

  • As a senior technical specialist you will lead successful projects by utilising the very best technical resources within the Oceaneering team
  • Support and mentor other members of the team to share your knowledge/experience
  • Using your skills, knowledge and experience this will enable you to lead Engineering studies, detailed site investigations, undertake desktop analysis to solve complex problems and develop cost effective engineered solutions
  • After determining the level of risk and where appropriate the root cause, you will assess/manage risks and develop an effective solution. As a specialist you will provide guidance on process-related, operational and other common excitation sources
  • Communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders at all stages of the project.
  • Complete summary reportage and complete all other reportage required for project to exceed customer's expectations
  • Implement effective Project Management procedures and control all commercial aspects of projects
  • Continually develop Oceaneering's technical services, procedures and technology. Contribute to technical papers and articles for publication in journals and technical publications
  • Ideally you should be experienced in all aspects of using vibration/dynamic measurement equipment including transducers, analysers and associated software
  • Experience of using specialist software for simulation (e.g. PSA, FEA, CFD) is desirable

Skills and Experience

 

 

  • Experience in a relevant Consultancy Engineering role and leading Projects.
  • In depth knowledge of the following - Design of Piping/Structures, Piping and Structural Vibration and Fatigue
  • Extensive experience in using vibration/dynamic measurement equipment including transducers, analysers and associated software. Experience of performing site investigations including monitoring strain, vibration and dynamic pressure
  • Experience of Modal testing and Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) analysis
  • Experience of using specialist software for simulation (e.g. Caesar II, ANSYS)
  • In depth Knowledge and experience of implementing best practice guidelines (e.g. Energy Institute AVIFF Guidelines)
  • Knowledge of some of the following is also desirable - Rotating Machinery Vibration and troubleshooting, Acoustics, Structural Monitoring and Instrumentation associated with vibration testing/monitoring.
  • Knowledge of damage mechanisms and how to assess, prevent and determine mitigation measures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive self-starter with a dedication to excellence
  • Experience of supervising technical staff on projects
  • Experience of supporting and mentoring Engineers
  • Experience of engaging with customers, building effective relationships and securing new contracts
  • Advanced literacy in MS Office and Engineering Software packages

  • BSc/BEng / MEng Mechanical Engineering/Aeronautical Engineering or Acoustics/Physics Related Degrees
  • Chartered status preferred or at least working towards
