Job Summary
Perform analysis, trouble-shoot and diagnose problems in order to recommend technical solutions, as required for projects and assistance to current dynamically positioned (DP), offshore drilling operations. Review shipyard drawings and calculations, supervise and inspect work done by subcontractors and vendors.
Job Description

DUTIES :
1. Assist the Engineering Discipline Manager, Design Engineer or Project Manager in solving engineering design and analysis problems.
2. Perform inspections and attend tests of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards and contract specifications.
3. Coordinates the work drafters and technicians to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
4. Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
5. Organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project.
6. Evaluate existing designs of engineering systems to determine the operational effectiveness, safety, and relative cost of such systems.
7. Attend the rigs offshore for technical support and commissioning of upgrade on equipment and software.

EDUCATION:
Associates in Applied Sciences degree or equivalent with extensive application experience in Offshore rigs electrical and Controls discipline.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 12-15 years' work experience with drilling contractor with offshore hands on experience. Experience should include specific knowledge electrical, motor drives, power plant and control of DP vessels.

SKILLS:
Must demonstrate expertise in the designated electrical and DP/Controls discipline and possess organizational skills to deal with multiple tasks, simultaneously. Must exhibit proven written and oral communication skills to deal with multinational work force. Proficiency demonstrated at the "advanced level" in the following:

  • PLC Programming (Ladder and/or Statement)
  • Microsoft Windows operating environment
  • MS Word
  • MS Project
  • MS Excel

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of vessel Classification Society regulations and guidelines. knowledge and work experience in drilling industry experience is required.

SUPERVISION:
Some supervision of CAD personnel.

BUDGETS:
Value of equipment or system specified for Appropriation For Expenditure (AFE) $0 - $1 million. No budget permanently assigned.

INGENUITY:
Must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to identify and solve unusual problems associated with improved rig performance, reliability, efficiency and safety. Has to have ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution. Must be able to perform with a sense or urgency, and highest ethical standards without sacrificing on accuracy and professional engineering practices.

DECISION MAKING:
Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning operational integrity and regulatory compliance of rigs. Evaluates and recommends for manager's approval all actions which have significant financial impact or operational consequences.
