What's the role?

As Structured Finance Manager, you'll be bringing your world class, in-depth Structured finance expertise to a wide range of business activities, including our trading organisation. You will need to take responsibility for both classic structured finance opportunities, including project financing and those that support commodity trading growth. The role entails identification and development of appropriate financing structures, significant interaction with external stakeholders, identification and mitigation of risks and working both externally and internally with key stakeholders at senior levels.

Building alignment is important as is meticulous attention to detail whilst understanding that in most cases the structured finance is an enabler for Shell's core business rather than an end in itself. The Structured Finance Manager focuses on enhancing and protecting value and appropriately managing risk when third-party debt is used, either directly though lending to a joint venture, or indirectly, through lending to counterparties.

Optimizing your understanding and knowledge of business drivers and strategy, you will lead or support all structured financing activities across all Group businesses, identifying and developing appropriate financing structures and mitigating risks.

You can expect to be working with a wide range of internal teams, including business developers across the businesses, legal, tax and business treasury, trading finance, credit and risk teams. Externally, you will engage with partners, counterparties, financial, legal and other advisers and lenders.

Where you fit in

This role is part of the Structured Finance (SF) team, a 'centre of expertise' for all structured finance activities across Shell's portfolio of businesses, including project finance and third-party lending structures, focussing on highly complex, tightly structured transactions.

With the global reach of this role, you can expect a reasonable amount of travel.

What we need from you

We're keen to talk to anyone with proven experience working within finance, who can show evidence of growing responsibility. We expect you'll have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or another related discipline, and preferably also an MBA with Finance specialism or CFA certification. Beyond that, we'd hope to much of the following on your CV:
  • Very strong numeracy skills and the ability to evaluate financial models.
  • An understanding of accounting, and the ability to identify where accounting expertise is required.
  • Banking/Treasury experience including negotiating financing terms and agreements with lenders.
  • Experience in working with/or in a bank on structured finance and project financing transactions.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive, enquiring mind with the ability to pay attention to the detail as well as step back to understand the bigger picture and communicate the concepts and strategies effectively
  • Strong commercial acumen and external focus with a risk management mindset; ability to drive a culture of responsibility, accountability and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will need to work seamlessly with other internal & external teams to deliver the accountabilities.
