Equipment Operator / Foreman Job Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:

Purpose:

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Operator/Foreman performs skilled work and supervision of work crews in the preparation, construction, maintenance and repair of oil and gas production pipeline systems.

Foreman Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervise a work crew consisting of multiple members.
  • Plan and execute the safest, most efficient and effective work order necessary to achieve scheduled tasking on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and communicate problems on the job site. Resolve issues in a timely manner based on experience and industry best practices.
  • Maintain highest standards of integrity, safety, quality workmanship and accountability.
  • Mentor crew members' skills through coaching and cross-training.
  • Create and ensure a positive, professional company image on the job site.


Foreman Requirements:

 

 

  • A minimum (preferred) 5 years' oil & gas industry pipeline construction experience as a foreman and 3 years' heavy equipment operator experience (on most pieces).
  • Previous training in oil & gas production industry and heavy equipment safety standards in accordance with OSHA's General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910) and OSHA's Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
  • Ability to read and understand plot plans, site surveys, and civil construction plans.
  • Possess an insurance-acceptable driver's license- Class A CDL preferred/able to obtain.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead crews and assure customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to complete required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all company and client based OQ's
  • Must be able to obtain all safety required certifications ( PEC, OSHA competent person Trenching Excavation, Hot work)
  • Must be competent in all state regulatory requirements for Trenching and Excavation 811
  • Must be able to read and understand underground utility alignment sheets
  • Must be able to operate underground utility locating equipment such as M-Scope, Radio Detect


Heavy Equipment Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Operate company vehicles in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies. Operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to, Backhoes, graders, front-end loaders, excavators and skid steer loaders.
  • Excavate soils and/or trenches, hoist tools, equipment, and any work-related materials with a track hoe, excavator, or front-end loader.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to the maintenance supervisor; clean equipment.
  • Operate light equipment including, but not limited to pumps, vacuum equipment, and generators.
  • Perform emergency response activities including, but not limited to cleaning chemical and water spills, biological contamination, equipment decontamination, etc.
  • Operate various hand tools and powered (pneumatic, electrical and hydraulic) industrial tools including pressure washers.
  • Work in all outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and humidity while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment.

 

 

  • Work in atmospheres and physical locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic or corrosive.
  • Work in potentially elevated noise level environments and confined spaces.
  • Perform duties at various elevations including working from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Assist in field sampling activities and calibration of meters and other electronic equipment.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management and as required by the needs of the Company.

Heavy Equipment Operator Requirements:

 

 

  • Demonstrated operational experience of heavy construction equipment of all types including hydraulic excavator/track hoe, motor grader, front-end loader, dozer, skid steer.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to safely traverse buried pipelines, open trenches, and open trenches with pressurized pipelines.
  • Ability to wear and properly use a variety of Level A, B, C and D personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection in multiple combinations.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding and into and out of trucks and equipment cabs.
  • Ability to work extended ( > 8 hrs.) time periods.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours beyond the normal schedule when necessary to support emergency response situations. Because of the emergency response and operational nature of the position, may require availability on a rotating, 24/7 on-call schedule.
  • Valid Drivers License with clean motor vehicle record
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test.
