Job Description

Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) is a leading Dutch investment management company which manages one of the largest corporate pension fund groups in the world. Within SAMCO, the Fixed Income team is focused to expand on its track record of consistent outperformance over the years. We strongly believe that our ability to deliver such success is down to our committed people, our strong processes and the flexibility provided by the wide range of markets, asset classes and instruments supported by our clients. Our growing focus on machine learning will help ensure we continue to deliver on our world-class financial performance.
We are currently looking for a pro-active and meticulous Junior Portfolio Manager, who will focus on investment strategies in Corporate Credit, both fundamental and quantitative in nature.

Why we're hiring
SAMCo is the dedicated in-house asset manager and a centre of excellence of the Royal Dutch Shell Plc group. We manage over USD 85 billion in assets for the largest Shell Pension Funds, the majority of which managed in-house. Based in Rijswijk, SAMCo employs around 170 people and invests in fixed income, equities as well as alternative asset classes. Within the Fixed Income department, a team of seven people manages a EUR 12 billion global portfolio of both investment grade and high yield corporate debt. Through extensive inhouse research, the team develops a diversified set of fundamental and algorithm-based strategies.

What we can offer you
As a Junior Portfolio Manager, you will be assisting the portfolio management process from day one and thus gain immediate hands-on experience. We will provide you the opportunity to learn a diversified set of investment processes, global macroeconomic trends and the mechanics of the capital markets. In addition, you will have the chance to understand, challenge and improve current investment strategies both in fundamental and quantitative areas.
In this role you will have a comprehensive on-boarding program, with guidance and support from senior portfolio managers to enhance your professional development and help shape your career path. Naturally, SAMCO will facilitate a VBA or CFA education, as well as provide various hard and soft-skill courses. SAMCo provides these opportunities, while at the same time supporting its employees to maintain a good work-life balance.

Your role/scope as a Junior Portfolio Manager Fixed Income:
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the implementation of various strategies across the corporate credit portfolios in collaboration with the other team members, as well as assist in the development of new fundamental and quantitative models and strategies.
You should have a pro-active approach, with an analytical mindset that supports your activities.
As a portfolio manager you will be involved in:
  • Rebalancing portfolios in line with agreed-upon risk-return profiles, including subscribing to new bonds being issued.
  • Improving existing models and other tools to optimize portfolio implementation.
  • Contribute to the development of new investment strategies, based on opportunities and trends spotted in the market.
  • Maintaining and extending your network of contacts in the fixed income market, which includes representatives of banks and brokers, research providers and other asset managers.
What we need from you:
We are looking for an analyst, portfolio manager or risk manager with an exposure to credit analysis and with a desire to become an investment management professional. You will have:
  • A Master's degree, preferably in finance, economics, the beta sciences or similar education.
  • A desire to learn programming techniques, such as Excel VBA, Python or Matlab, machine learning, or data science.
  • A pro-active mindset with good interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate well in a team environment with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures.
