ENGINEERING STUDENT INTERN
SUMMARYUnder the direct supervision of engineering personnel, the student/intern is responsible to work within an engineering team to assist with problem solving and provide engineering support of new and existing products. The student will obtain knowledge and direct application of engineering principles while supporting and learning the products and processes of the department and company. Ongoing training includes development of new engineering skills in the design, manufacturing, testing and operation of oilfield explosives mechanical hardware as well as deployment of perforating systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. These duties are carried out under the direct supervision of engineering personnel.Support and research into existing and new products. Development activities include the drafting and design of products.Responsible to conduct basic stress analysis of tools and learn the application of stress analysis to the development of products.Prepare testing procedures and assist in the assembly and testing of prototypes.Learn and utilize a variety of engineering software required to conduct development activities. Responsible to create testing procedures and test requests. May include direct involvement with testing programs and related personnel.Perform drafting duties (or may request/assign drafting duties) in preparation of new or revised drawings, artwork, and updating and archiving of engineering documents. Preparing layouts and drawings according to engineering specifications.All duties and functions to be performed within time parameters as set by departmental and project requirements. A professional attitude should be prevalent representing an eagerness to learn and strong customer awareness.Requires a high level of supervision and training to fulfill job responsibilities.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEEnrollment in either of the following programs; Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, physics, or related scientific field. Enrolled in or planning to enroll in various design and drafting courses including experience and/or training in the use of computer aided design software and engineering analysis software. LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and technical documentation. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the engineering department.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid driver's license and a good driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe employee will have a daily involvement in the assembly and testing of tools. Reasonable physical strength and aptitude is required to lift tool assemblies and test equipment including concrete targets and perforating guns. Further strength and aptitude is required to use a variety of power and hand tools. The operation of equipment is essential to job including powered industrial trucks and explosive assembly equipment (training will be provided). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee will be mainly in an office environment with regular exposure to manufacturing and testing facilities (including hands on work with assembly and testing of tools) and exposure to a manufacturing environment containing presses, lathes, mills, etc. The employee will have daily exposure to explosive materials, various metals and chemicals used in the manufacture of oilfield explosives products. There may be occasional exposure to various weather conditions (in the case of field or outdoor testing).
