To develop, refine, test and evaluate models and processing for the characterization and operation of open and cased-hole EM well logging measurements, and to assist in the commercialization and support of new tools, methods and workflows.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be responsible for improving the accuracy and scope of measurement response characterization data for existing wireline open-hole induction and laterolog measurements.
In due course, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, your role is likely to expand to include the characterization of logging-while-drilling measurements, and work to support the design of novel and new-to-Weatherford open and cased-hole EM measurements.
You will build, validate and operate numerical and (where appropriate) analytical EM models for the purpose of characterizing basic measurement attributes, and for characterizing the response to geological features such as bed sequences, apparent dip and anisotropy.
You will develop algorithms and code to apply the results of modelling work in acquisition and post-processing software.
You will support our internal and external stakeholders by providing evidence to help explain the response of our EM measurements in non-standard conditions, and to explain complex or non-intuitive responses whatever the scenario.
You will evaluate field test data associated with the introduction of new products and services, and refine processes accordingly.
You will work with the team to extract additional value from the integration of EM measurements with other well logs including image logs, NMR, dielectric, and pulsed neutron logs.
Originate project documentation, conduct regular project reviews for internal stakeholders, and provide training as part of your support for the commercialization of new products and services.
Author and co-author technical papers for journal publication and presentation at technical conferences, symposia, and workshops.
Be proactive in identifying research opportunities
Maintain professional standards of work and conduct at all times.
A PhD degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering with a particular focus on EM measurements.
A minimum of 8 years' post-graduate experience in EM characterization.
Expert-level knowledge of the principles and practice of numerical and analytical modelling for characterizing the borehole and formation response of EM measurements is essential, evidenced by technical publications.
A track record in innovation is required, as evidenced by published patents.
Ability to code in MatLab, Python and/or C is essential
Experience working within an R&D environment is essential.
Familiarity with formation evaluation principles is highly desirable.
Familiarity with project management processes is desirable.
Excellent inter-personal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to work diligently and in conformance to required processes
Fluency in English
Ability to identify and exploit technical opportunities
Occasional travel (to conferences, for example) may be required.
