Engineering Electrical Engineer

Basic Purpose/Accountabilities:

Provide Electrical Discipline Engineering oversight and support to Kuparuk (GKA) and Alpine (WNS) capital projects.  The Electrical Engineer works closely with Operations and Project Management on modification and additions to production and support facilities, power generation, power distribution, heat trace, lighting and the Fire & Gas Systems.  This engineering position is primarily capital projects support and located in Anchorage.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

Support COPA HSE goals

Support NSOD Integrity & Engineering Group goals

Coordinate closely with COPA electrical engineers and maintenance technicians supporting field activities and Operations managed projects to ensure consistency.

Involved in maintaining and applying ConocoPhillips Engineering Standards.

Leads the development of each project's electrical basis of design including studies of existing electrical infrastructure capacities.

Works collaboratively and providing technical and project guidance to engineering contracting firms working on COPA projects.

Reviews design deliverables and monitor the performance of the design contractor's electrical design teams.

Coordinate electrical interface with other engineering disciplines.

Participates in the project risk management process.

Participates in process hazard analysis and safeguard evaluations.

Participates in the development of operation, maintenance, and start-up philosophies.

Participates in P&ID and electrical and control systems drawing reviews.

Assists in evaluation of proposals for major equipment.

Reviews electrical input to bid documents, and vendor submittals.

Assists in factory acceptance testing and field inspections.

Helps prepare quality assurance/quality control programs and plans.

Participates in evaluation of quotes for major equipment.         

Basic / Required Skills:

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering

5+ years design experience in petroleum production, refining, and/or chemical industry

Knowledge of electrical code (NEC 70)

Knowledge of IEEE, ISA, UL, NEMA, and ANSI standards

Knowledge of API Recommended Practices and Standards (API 500, API 505, etc)

Preferred Skills:

Professional Electrical Engineer License in Alaska (desired)

Experience with Electrical Protective relays (Multilin)

Experience with low voltage and medium voltage drives (AB and Siemens)

Familiarity with Easy Power electrical modeling program

Good written and oral communication skills

Strong team leadership and collaboration skills

Key Accountabilities:

Provides technical assurance for electrical design in projects.

Provides technical assurance for electrical design in projects.

Reviews and approves the work of engineering contractors and designers for the electrical engineering discipline.

Conducts or oversees power systems analyses, equipment design, specification, and installation.

Provides technical support for operating and maintenance activities.

Identifies company internal engineering standards and electrical industry standards applicable to projects and operations and assists project/asset owners with their application.

Reviews and audits electrical safety programs.

Participates in project development process and project delivery.

Ensures equipment scope and content is defined during initial design processes.

Supports supply chain in electrical system and equipment procurement activities.
