JOB SCOPE:  Responsible for the well engineering design, planning, execution and support for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) applications including post drilling analysis and well engineering / operations optimization. The engineer will work closely with rig contractors and operators' subsurface disciplines, well systems and regulatory entities to come up with the safest and most efficient plans to apply MPD successfully.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare MPD programs that include transient and steady-state hydraulic simulations related with drilling, influx management, MPD Matrix and envelope, riser gas handling, running drilling pipe and casing/liner, hole cleaning, cementing and well completion processes on managed pressure mode, as well as operating procedures adapted to each specific operation.
  • Follow up operations and support them remotely when MPD well-engineering requirements are needed.
  • Provide on-site specialized MPD well-engineering support on projects where an MPD Project Engineer is part of the crew.  Once on the operation, the project engineer could also take the role of well site supervisor or MPD system operator.
  • Coordinate specific MPD operations when assigned to projects (well-engineering and operation)
  • Attend and support technical meetings, risk assessments, hazards identification analysis, hazard and operability studies, drilling well on paper, etc.
  • Perform functional specification designs/calculations for surface MPD equipment and integration with rig equipment (frictional pressure losses on surface lines, equipment and accessories, erosion, rig MGS capabilities, etc)
  • Review and approve rig visit/inspections (onshore/offshore) reports for MPD equipment installation and related flow process diagram and P&ID.
  • Perform job audits and keep track of operations results.
  • Write technical papers for national/international conferences as well as internal real results documentation.


 

Skills & Knowledge:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Ability and willingness to learn thru a structured development program which includes internal and external courses, external certifications and practical on the job training (both office and field).
  • An accredited Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical/Electronic, Industrial or Petroleum preferred).
  • Experience in Managed Pressure Drilling (land and deep-water) and Underbalanced Drilling (UBD)
  • Experience working with single-phase/multi-phase hydraulic transient and steady-state simulators.
  • Well control engineering/operations experience.  Ability using influx management simulators.
  • Proven English language communication skills required (both oral and written).
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft suite, AutoCad and other design software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment (team oriented)
  • Professional manner with a positive customer service attitude
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a positive attitude

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Must be eligible to apply or must have legal authorization to work on a full-time basis in USA.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited University with 6+ years related experience.
  • 10+ wells exposure in onshore environment.  5+ wells exposure in Offshore.
  • Project Engineer/Management experience.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote land and offshore work locations and possibly to other countries. Ability to travel internally in the region or globally if required attending meetings, customer office assignments or operations.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience using Project Management software.
  • Experience using AutoCad.


 

PREFERRED:

  • Experience running well planning software
  • Technical or operations experience with an operator in the field of drilling, completions, or reservoir. Drilling and Completion experience (onshore and offshore).
  • Proficiency using and interpreting hydraulics, torque & drag analysis, casing design, drillstring/BHA design, data analysis, real-time evaluations models and Drilling and Completion experience (onshore and offshore).
