Relying on manufacturing plants housed in North America and Europe, our partner produces innovative chemical solutions for the fuels, oilfield, oil refinery and personal care markets.

Our partner's Fuel Specialties business is a market leader in additives for diesel, gasoline, HFO and jet fuel. Located in the Greater Denver Area we are seeking an industry experienced Director of Operations to join our team. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Business Operations, the Director of Operations serves as the senior leader for all supply chain activities for North America. Leading a team of logistics, supply chain, customer care, cargo treatment and accounting/ procurement professionals to exceed customer expectations; this role is the operational heart of the fuels business.

As an operations leader, this position forms the bridge between our internal supply chain/operational delivery teams, our sales organization, senior leadership and our customers. Possessing focused and relevant knowledge of industry safety policies and hazmat regulations you will establish key supply chain relationships with vendors and strategic suppliers. It is further expected that you will drive efficiencies through a data-driven, Six Sigma approach to deliver programs/results in keeping with the financial and operational targets for the region; and to ensure customer and business requirements are matched with supply chain capability.

Position Responsibilities

Managerial Responsibilities:            

  • This role is responsible for the complete oversight and management of the Purchasing and Supply Chain Budget, and Fuel Specialties Inventory for North America
  • Oversight and responsible for six critical business areas including the following sector leadership: Customer Care Director, Supply Chain Director, Freight Logistics Manager, Accounting Director, Cargo Treat Coordinator, Purchasing Director
  • Develop necessary standards and KPI's for supply chain
  • Establish, monitor, meet and forensically analyze KPI's for team and individual direct reports
  • Mentor, coach and develop staff so as to support their abilities in meeting/beating their objectives.
  • Use developed tools in fulfilling quarterly and yearly performance reviews and apply corrective action where reports have deviated from expected performance

Supply Chain, Freight and Logistics:

  • Manage and optimize all aspects of the regional supply chain performance
    • Manage the supplier program. Where necessary take actions to reduce costs and focus on creating greater efficiencies, economies of scale, or better-quality resources for project teams and business requirements
    • Engage in strategic negotiation to achieve favorable conditions and strong supplier partnerships
  • Manages the supply chain service delivery for the region, with emphasis on OTIF, customer service and financial targets
    • Review and negotiate contracts with an emphasis on cost, quality and on time delivery
    • Develop and maintain an approved supplier list and implement scorecard for major suppliers
    • Monitor/address supplier performance regarding quality, pricing and delivery requirements
  • Drives out costs in all aspects of the regional supply chain without compromising OTIF performance
    • Lead the company's initiatives to develop strategic projects to drive cost efficiencies which have a visible impact to the bottom line. Uses Six Sigma and LEAN methodologies to identify, plan, resource, prioritize, and execute these programs
  • Manage the inventory working capital of the region
  • Manage aged and distressed inventory
    • Work to further refine and implement the SIOP for the business. Support the company's initiatives to work smarter with existing inventories, while balancing the need to support peak demand requirements
  • Provide effective leadership and support to ensure that all direct and indirect reports in N. America are coached, developed and supported in achieving agreed targets, and fulfill their potential

Field/Customer Responsibilities:

  • Site visits and presentations supporting sales force and enhance presence within existing and potential new customers to increase sales of fuel additives
  • Provide contractual support
  • Involvement in Americas Business Team Meetings

You Bring:

  • Extensive supply chain knowledge and asset/people management experience, with preference for experience acquired in the chemical/fuels/energy industry
  • Bachelor's degree required with relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CIPS), 10+ years logistics experience. MBA preferred
  • Extensive importing and exporting management experience
  • Extensive transport and regulatory knowledge
    • Experience dealing with regulatory bodies such as DOT, OSHA and EPA
  • Solid hazardous goods knowledge
  • Good financial and commercial understanding, including cross-border tax & duty issues
  • Strong customer service advocate and experience
  • Strong business analysis and project management skills and experience
  • Excellent communication skills, oral written and presentation
  • The ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team and desire to mentor/develop junior staff
  • Experience in fuel additives/chemicals or related product areas an asset
