We are seeking a Pilot Plant Experimental Design and Operation Specialist, to join the Research Support Division (RSD) of the Research & Development Center (R&DC).
RSD is responsible for providing support to R&DC Divisions. RSD is organized into four Units: Facility Maintenance Unit, Pilot Plant Engineering and Operation Unit, Engineering Unit and the Research Computer Applications Unit
The Pilot Plant Engineering and Operation Unit owns sophisticated pilot plant facilities which support relevant research, technology and specialized technical services. Current assets cover separation, refining, petrochemical and carbon management processes. R&D is committed to working collaboratively, building our assets and finding new ways of valorizing our oil and gas resources, through innovative solutions, technology development and engineering support to corporate operation. This leads to a sustainable outcome, creating value for all of our stakeholders.
Your primary role is to support research and development projects within the Pilot Plant Engineering and Operation Unit, and provide technical services to the corporate operation, producing representative data generated by pilot plants. You must be able to engineer solutions related to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity. You will also design pilot plant processes, including development of the basis of design studies, considering different process options and optimization of the selected design.
As the successful candidate you will hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related science from a recognized and approved program. A master's degree is preferred.
Ten years of experience in R&D, or in oil refineries, chemical plants, or a similar hydrocarbon industry. Other industrial site experience will be considered; pilot plant competency is a plus.
You will have achieved recognition in your field through publication in significant technical journals and a history of active participation in technical society activities.
Previous experience within a reputable research and technology environment is preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Produce representative data generated by pilot plants, design pilot plant processes, including development of the basis of design studies, considering different process options and optimization of the selected design.
Define and conduct design of experiments required for R&D programs and technical services, reproduce, optimize and propose modification of refining or chemical processes, using pilot plant data generated in-house, prepare testing protocols, operating instructions and ensure proper sequence of the experimentation.
Calculate process performances, organize data, and develop experimentation and engineering reports for further utilization through the company.
Utilize engineering simulators and develop simple models.
Develop process flow diagram, heat and material balances, and developing process specifications.
