Job Summary

The Lead Operations Mechanical Engineering Advisor is responsible for providing a comprehensive Mechanical Engineering support service to ensure the integrity and reliability of the plant mechanical structures, rotating equipment and systems. The position is also responsible for authorizing Mechanical Engineering design and plant modifications through in-house and contracted staff in close coordination with the Projects Engineering Section and as defined in the Company Management of Change Procedures.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of eight (8) or more years' experience in Oil and Gas operations and five (5) or more years' experience in LNG operations. Specific experience and expertise in the following is required:



  • 5 years' experience in a senior engineering supervisory position.
  • Specialist knowledge of mechanical engineering discipline and general knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently create functional and cost effective designs/processes that meet complex specification requirements.
  • Familiar with cryogenic equipment and cold temperature effects on piping, structures and other plant equipment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to engineer, operate and maintain the company's LNG plant and terminal (electrical, process, instrumentation and controls, mechanical and civil disciplines).
  • Experience in dealing with various country cultures and government representatives.
  • Strong planning experience and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple complex projects and meet work deadlines.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including project management, database, spreadsheet and word processing skills.


EPC Phase



  • Provide technical input to the detailed design and engineering teams the position will be required to relocate to the design office in an international location for up to 24 months.
  • Provide assistance to the Construction and Commissioning teams on Mechanical issues to guarantee a timely and safe start-up of the LNG facilities.
  • Develop Mechanical Engineering strategies, procedures, standards and systems for sustaining plant integrity and reliability.

    Operational Phase
  • Oversee Mechanical Engineering activities in the Operations and Maintenance Departments.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for plant modification, debottlenecking facilities and other new projects on mechanical and piping.Meet with consultants, contractors and concerned company senior personnel in scoping, defining and planning such projects.
  • Develop Mechanical Engineering strategies, procedures, standards and systems for sustaining plant integrity and reliability.
  • Ensure adequate design and performance of critical mechanical systems.
  • Authorize plant mechanical design changes and modifications.
  • Advise Maintenance Supervisors on the content of mechanical maintenance procedures for structures and equipment.
  • Pursue a program of Asset Integrity Management excellence to maximize plant operational performance and long-term integrity for the Plant.
  • Identify training and development needs for all staff and implement programs for technicians in order to meet Nationalization objectives.
  • Manage the Mechanical Section Capex and Opex budgets within the agreed targets.
  • Identify and sponsor Mechanical Section contracts and resource requirements, develop work scopes for approval and monitor all contractor performance.
  • Identify Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) hazards, assess and control risks and continually enhance and develop the HS&E program.
  • Adhere to and enforce all applicable safety, environmental, security, compliance, quality standards and procedures established by Company, Client, local policies, laws and regulations.
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses according to Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Lead/participate in technical investigations and root cause analysis.


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.


Fluent oral and written knowledge of English is required.

Work Schedule

During the operations phase, this position will be on a 28/28 rotation, 12 hour shifts to Palma, Mozambique.
