Woodside Invests in Cyber Security Company
Woodside Energy Ltd revealed Monday that it has invested in Sapien Cyber Ltd, a Western Australian cyber security firm.
In a press release published on Woodside’s website, the company said it will take a 10 percent shareholding in Sapien Cyber, “subject to satisfaction of conditions precedent”. Woodside Chief Technology Officer Shaun Gregory will join the Sapien Cyber advisory board as an observer, the release revealed.
“Woodside is proud to be supporting another Western Australian technology company. The sophistication of Sapien Cyber’s technology platform has the potential to deliver a comprehensive and multi-dimensional cyber security solution to protect Woodside’s operating assets,” Gregory said in a company statement.
Sapien Cyber Chairman John Poynton said, “our unique approach offers unparalleled, real-time visibility to the client’s network, detecting operational technology cyber threats before they can wreak havoc”.
Launched by the cyber security research team at Edith Cowan University, Sapian Cyber offers “leading-edge cyber security and threat intelligence solutions,” according to its website.
Earlier this month, Woodside announced that it had invested in two online LNG platforms “designed to facilitate greater price transparency, efficiency and compliance in LNG markets”. The platforms - GLX and Gastrayda - both originated in Western Australia.
