Wintershall Awards Major North Sea Contracts
Wintershall Norge has awarded two major subsea contracts for its operated Nova field (formerly Skarfjell) in the Norwegian North Sea.
A subsea production system contract has been awarded to Aker Solutions AS, and a pipeline and subsea construction contract has been awarded to Subsea 7 Norway AS. The value of Aker and Subsea 7’s individual contracts was not announced, although they were said to have a combined value of approximately $230 million.
A plan for development and operation for the Nova field is expected to be submitted in the first half of 2018. The two awards support the selected development solution for the field as a tieback to the nearby Gjøa platform.
“A key part of our strategy in Norway is to cost-effectively build our position through smart engineering and through the utilization of existing infrastructure,” Hugo Dijkgraaf, Wintershall Norge managing director, said in a company statement.
“We believe that working with strong and committed suppliers like Aker Solutions and Subsea 7 helps provide the experience and expertise we need to continue building our strengths as a subsea operator in Norway,” he added.
As part of its contract, Aker Solutions will provide the subsea production system, umbilicals and services for the Nova project.
The system will consist of two templates with manifolds, seven subsea trees including one spare, umbilicals and associated tie-in and controls equipment. The order includes installation and commissioning support services.
"We're pleased to be selected to deliver the subsea production system for Nova," Aker Solutions Executive Vice President, Knut Sandvik, said in a company statement.
"The cost-optimized system is a result of our close cooperation with Wintershall in the front-end engineering phase and we'll continue to work together through execution,” Sandvik added.
Aker’s work for Nova will start immediately and involves facilities in Norway, the UK and Malaysia. Final deliveries are scheduled for 2019 and 2020.
Subsea 7’s contract award comprises the engineering, procurement, construction and installation delivery of pipeline and riser systems, the transport and installation of subsea production systems and an umbilical system.
Fabrication of the pipeline will take place at Subsea 7’s spoolbase at Vigra, Norway. Project management and engineering will commence immediately at Subsea 7’s offices in Stavanger, Norway. Offshore operations will take place in 2019 and 2020.
“This sizeable contract award recognizes our record of strong execution with Wintershall. This project draws upon Subsea 7’s substantial experience of delivering EPCI projects safely, efficiently and reliably,” Phil Simons, Subsea 7’s North Sea and Canada vice president, said in a company statement.
