Venture Global to Use Honeywell Tech at Louisiana Facility
Venture Global LNG, Inc. will use Honeywell UOP modular gas processing units at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility in Cameron Parish, La., Honeywell UOP reported Monday.
In a written statement emailed to Rigzone, Honeywell UOP stated that its LNG pretreatment technology will remove contaminants from 1.6 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas prior to liquefaction at Calcasieu Pass. Moreover, the company noted that it will provide engineering, procurement and fabrication services for the complex. Once completed, the facility will be able to produce 10 million tons per annum of LNG for export to markets in Asia, Europe and elsewhere, Honeywell UOP added.
According to Honeywell UOP, the project calls for a mercury removal unit and three separate trains. Each train will comprise an acid gas removal unit and a molecular sieve dehydration unit, the company stated. Also, it noted that the modular units will remove water, mercury, carbon dioxide and sulfur from natural gas before it becomes LNG.
“With this project, Honeywell UOP is helping Venture Global LNG build a facility that provides the lowest-cost supply of LNG by using large-scale high-performance equipment,” stated Ben Owens, vice president and general manager of Honeywell UOP’s Gas Processing and Hydrogen business. “By delivering this technology in modular form, we can reduce construction and installation costs compared with traditional field-constructed systems.”
Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass website states that the facility will include:
- Nine 1.2-mtpa liquefaction blocks
- Two 200,000-cubic meter full-containment LNG storage tanks
- A marine terminal capable of serving LNG carriers with up to 185,000 cubic meters of capacity
- A lateral pipeline linked to interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines
“Honeywell UOP is an established leader in advanced proprietary technologies for gas pretreatment, and we’re pleased to be partnered with them on this critical project,” said Bob Pender, co-CEO of Venture Global LNG.
“These technologies are proven and reliable, and the delivery of those technologies in modular form provides better quality and adherence to delivery schedules,” Mike Sabel, co-CEO of Venture Global, added.
Calcasieu Pass, which is under construction, is one of three LNG export projects Venture Global is pursuing in South Louisiana. The company is also developing the 20-mtpa Plaquemines LNG facility on the Mississippi River south of New Orleans. In addition, it has unveiled plans for another 20-mtpa complex on the Mississippi south of New Orleans: Delta LNG.
